It might be colder, greyer, wetter and generally more depressing, but Autumn definitely has its perks. Apart from being welcome relief to hayfever sufferers and anyone prone to sunburn, the start of September signifies one thing for foodies - the pumpkin spice season is upon us. Of course, everyone is familiar with the perennially divisive Starbucks PSL. But the world’s biggest coffee chain aren’t the only ones who enjoy flavouring their food with aromatic gourds.

For one week only, donut kings Krispy Kreme are offering audiences a very special riff on their tried and tested pumpkin spiced glazed ring. Starting from the 2nd of September, customers will be able to get their hands on a cheesecake-stuffed version of the seasonal fan favourite, complete with cheesecake icing and signature cheesecake Kreme filling.

The new donut, which will be launched alongside a rerelease of the more traditional pumpkin spiced glazed ring, takes inspiration from the brand’s new range of Kreme-stuffed menu items, which has already included an original glazed ring and a limited edition Reese’s variety. However, the fact that the two pumpkin spiced items will only be available until September the 8th means that they might lack the staying power of the brand’s other stuffed ideas.

While many might be sick to the back teeth of the idea of yet another pumpkin-flavoured special offer, Krispy Kreme have come up with a cunning solution to keep customers invested. For the duration of their own pumpkin promotion, the company is also providing a “pumpkin spice protection plan”, allowing customers to trade in any rival pumpkin spice product on the market for a Krispy Kreme equivalent.

In a press release discussing the announcement, Dave Skena, Chief Marketing Officer for Krispy Kreme Doughnut Corporation, said:

“Bad pumpkin spice products shouldn’t happen to good people. If you’ve been impacted by the proliferation of pumpkin spice products that don’t make sense, come to Krispy Kreme and we’ll make it all better with a free pumpkin spice doughnut.”

So, even though summer is over, at least you won’t have to settle for subpar pumpkin in 2019.
