Political commentator Candace Owens has called for US forces to invade Canada in support of truckers.

The talk show host has advocated for American troops to be sent to support the anti-vaccine "Freedom Convoy" which is currently facing a restrictive crackdown from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

"STOP talking about Russia. Send American troops to Canada to deal with the tyrannical reign of Justin Trudeau Castro," Owens tweeted on Sunday, likening Trudeau to Cuban dictator Fidel Castro for enacting the country's Emergency Act.

Owens' calls for military intervention were met with resistance on social media - and not just from left-wing figures.

Ben Domenech - who runs right-wing magazine The Federalist - slammed Owens in a comment that he has since deleted, which read: "One of the things I love about this dumb person is how literally no one of importance ever listens to her as she screams into the void," per Insider.

Meanwhile, Republican radio host Joe Walsh warned against treating Owens as a radical, fringe voice, saying that her opinions were in fact "mainstream."

"Candace Owens isn’t fringe. She’s ignorant & dishonest. But she’s not fringe. If there’s one takeaway from everything I say, it would be this: Candace Owens is not fringe, she’s very much mainstream GOP base these days. And that’s scary," he tweeted.

Other Twitter users were a lot less 'conservative' with their tweets as they took aim at Owens:

However, Owens is not the only conservative pundit supporting the "Freedom Convoy". Fox News host Tucker Carlson has launched a line of 'I heart Truckers" t-shirts which he is selling on his website.

The slogan plays on Carlson's own name, with the 'r' and the 's' in inserted into the name 'Tucker'.
