A couple decided to leave their baby at airport check-in when they became aware it didn't have a ticket and they didn't want to buy one.

Airports can be stressful places which seems odd because more often than not the destination has a feeling of excitement about it, unless you're heading back home after two weeks in the sun of course.

What can make the experience all the more taxing is if you have young children in tow who usually aren't too keen to sit patiently in the departure lounge.

Adding children onto plans also makes it more expensive, which is something one Belgian couple didn't anticipate nor want to entertain.

According to the Jerusalem Post, the couple was attempting to board a flight from the Ben-Gurion airport in Tel Aviv but didn't have a ticket for their baby.

Standing in front of the Ryanair check-in desk, the couple decided that their flight to Brussels was more important than the child, so left it in its stroller as they attempted to head through passport control.

After the staff realized what was going on, they immediately called the police who managed to catch up with the couple and detain them for questioning.

According to airport staff, the couple arrived late at the check-in desk to find it was already closed. When they were informed they needed an extra ticket for their baby, they refused to pay.

They appear to have wanted to go and deal with security without the burden of the child, so left it unattended by the conveyor belt and headed off on their own.

"We've never seen anything like this. We couldn't believe what we were seeing," the Ryanair desk manager told the Jerusalem Post.

It is unclear at this time whether the couple and their baby made the flight to Brussels.

On the subject of strange airport stories, staff at Aberdeen airport in Scotland were scolded online after a video emerged of them doing the popular flossing dance during a live news bulletin as the world watched on as Queen Elizabeth II passed away.

Members of the royal family were flying into the airport so they could travel to Balmoral to be at the Queen's bedside, but the airport staff didn't seem to understand the importance of the situation and decided to have a dance.
