Following the tragic death of a bride who was killed moments after leaving her wedding reception, an alleged drunk driver accused of being responsible for her death has reportedly said she did "nothing wrong".

Samantha "Sam" Hutchinson, 34, and her new husband Aric Hutchinson, 36, tied the knot on April 28, and they left their wedding reception smiling from ear to ear.

But what had started as the best day of their lives soon turned into the worst as a suspected drunk driver struck the golf cart that was taking them from their wedding venue.

The incident at Folly Beach in South Carolina tragically saw Sam lose her life, while her husband Aric was rushed to the hospital with multiple broken bones and brain trauma.

The alleged drunk driver was named as 25-year-old Jamie Lee Komoroski who was arrested and charged with DUI involving death and reckless homicide, per CNN.

According to a toxicology report from South Carolina police, obtained by the New York P0st, Komoroski had a blood alcohol level of 0.261 (which is considered high) at the time of the incident.

According to the report filed by Folly Beach Police Sgt. Zac Halpern, the 25-year-old appeared confused when apprehended by officials.

She allegedly told officers: "All of a sudden something hit me," while repeatedly saying: "I did nothing wrong."

Komoroski also allegedly told the police that she had had only two drinks prior to the accident, a beer and a shot of tequila.

Halpern reportedly noted that the 25-year-old was struggling to stand correctly and that she refused to participate in a sobriety test.

When asked how intoxicated she was on a scale of one to 10, Halpern claims that he heard her mumble eight before demanding a lawyer, while yelling for her boyfriend.

In an affidavit obtained by the New York Post, police reported that Komoroski was driving at 65 mph (104 km/h), causing the golf cart to roll several times.

The 25-year-old has since been booked on suicide watch at Charleston County jail after she reportedly told an officer that she wished to take her own life.

Following the incident, Sam's mother Lisa Miller told WCIV: "I don't know what the distraction was, but she [Komoroski] literally ran into my daughter going 65 miles an hour. Sammie and Aric were on the back of the golf cart and so she basically just whammed my child."

Heartbreakingly, Lisa revealed Sam's final words to her: "On the beginning of the golf cart ride, she said 'I wished this night could go on forever.' The best night of her life."

Over $700,000 has been raised for Aric's medical bills and for Sam's funeral costs, as well-wishers from around the world have rallied to offer their support.
