Britney Spears' ex Kevin Federline says singer ‘watched young sons sleep with knife in hand’ - makes heartbreaking claim

Kevin Federline says he fears for the well-being of his ex-wife, Britney Spears, claiming her “erratic behavior” is far more troubling behind the scenes than what the public has witnessed.

In an emotional new interview with Entertainment Tonight, the 47-year-old former backup dancer said he’s “terrified” for their two sons (Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19) and worries about what the future might hold.

“I’m really worried,” Federline admitted. “I’m absolutely, as a father, terrified that one day I might wake up and my sons are going to have to deal with the unimaginable.”

Kevin Federline says he’s “sounding the alarm” about Britney’s health

Federline, who was married to Spears from 2004 to 2007, said he feels compelled to speak out now, claiming the pop star urgently needs help. “I kinda have to sound the alarm that I truly feel that somehow, someway, I just wish that their mom would get help,” he said.

The former dancer added that he discusses his concerns briefly in his upcoming memoir, You Thought You Knew, set for release on October 21.

While Federline declined to go into explicit detail, he claimed the reality of Spears’ situation is far worse than people imagine. “I’m not going to expose her personal life,” he said, via The New York Times. “But it’s 10 times worse than anything I’ve said in my book.”

Britney Spears’ representative fires back

In response to Federline’s claims, a representative for Britney Spears, 43, issued a sharp statement to Page Six, accusing him of exploiting her for publicity and money.

“With news from Kevin’s book breaking, once again he and others are profiting off her, and sadly, it comes after child support has ended,” the rep said.

The spokesperson added that Spears remains focused on her sons’ well-being: “All she cares about are her kids, Sean Preston and Jayden James, and their well-being during this sensationalism. She detailed her journey in her memoir.”

Child support and family tensions

Spears’ child support payments to Federline officially ended in November 2024, after nearly 17 years. The singer had been paying $20,000 per month in total for her two sons, with payments previously reaching $40,000 before her eldest turned 18, per Butler Law.

Federline reportedly writes in his memoir that he has long feared Spears was “racing toward something irreversible,” describing her as being on the brink of a crisis. “The clock is ticking, and we’re getting close to the 11th hour,” he writes. “Something bad is going to happen if things don’t change.”

In one particularly shocking claim, he alleges Spears once watched over their sons as they slept “with a knife in her hand.”

Britney Spears’ Recent Struggles

The Gimme More singer has faced renewed public scrutiny in recent months. Spears has reported refused mental health assistance, sparking concern among friends and family, according to Page Six.

Spears spent 13 years under a conservatorship, which was officially terminated in 2021 following a lengthy legal battle that galvanized her fan base and the wider #FreeBritney movement.
