Just days before the tragic death of Liam Payne, he and his girlfriend Kate Cassidy, had been enjoying a vacation together.
Fans around the world are mourning the death of the 31-year-old former One Direction star following his tragic passing.
The news broke on October 16 after Payne tragically fell from a third-floor balcony of the Hotel CasaSur in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Despite authorities being on the scene quickly, Payne had suffered "very serious" injuries and there was "no possibility of resuscitation," per BBC News.
It was reported that the hotel had called the police prior to the incident regarding an "aggressive man who may have been under the effects of drugs and alcohol."
The manager reportedly told the call operator that the guest "has a balcony, and we are afraid they might do something to put their life at risk".
In the days leading up to the tragedy, Payne's girlfriend of two years, Kate Cassidy, had been on holiday with him in Argentina.
Cassidy, a 25-year-old social media influencer, had been sharing glimpses of their trip online before deciding to return home to Florida.
She had been with Payne for two weeks, although the original plan was to stay for just five days, as reported by the Independent.
In a TikTok vlog posted just two days before Payne’s death, Cassidy expressed her desire to leave Buenos Aires after their extended stay.
“I honestly loved South America but I hate staying in one place for too long,” she said. “We were supposed to stay for five days but it turned into two weeks, and I was just like ‘I need to go home.’”
During her flight back to Miami, Cassidy humorously remarked that her seat number was “1D” - the shorthand for One Direction. “I swear this happens every single time I fly,” she said in the video.
In the days before Payne’s death, the pair had been enjoying their time in Argentina.
In a Snapchat video, Payne, while sitting at his hotel’s breakfast table, joked about Cassidy leaving her hat on the table, captioning the video: “Lovely day in Argentina.”
Cassidy had also shared photos of the couple horse riding, captioning the post: “I am very grateful for the simple things in life.”
Another post showed the pair posing for a selfie, with Payne captioning it: “Quality time.” He even hinted at a Halloween costume idea in a post that featured him sitting on a chair, captioned: “Halloween costume idea: Forest Gump.”
One of Payne’s last social media posts, a Snapchat story, showed the couple in swimsuits - an image originally shared by Cassidy on Instagram in August 2023 to mark Payne’s 30th birthday.
Earlier this month, Payne had shared on Snapchat that part of his trip to Argentina was to see his former bandmate Niall Horan perform.
He later shared a video of himself and Cassidy dancing at the concert, before sharing a couple of selfies with Horan.
“It’s been a while since me and Niall have spoken,” he said, adding: “We’ve got a lot to talk about, and I would like to square up a couple of things with the boy. No bad vibes or nothing like that, but we just need to talk.”
