As the defamation trial between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard continues, fans paying close attention to the case have taken to social media to point out a theory about the celebrity exes' outfit choices.

The trial between the two actors has continued to make headlines throughout the week, with revelations about the former couple coming to light in the Virginia court.

Depp, 58, is suing the Aquaman star for $50 million after Heard referred to herself as a "public figure representing domestic abuse" in a 2018 op-ed she wrote for The Washington Post. Heard is countersuing.

Now, over on social media, the conversation has turned to the style of the trial, rather than the substance.

Yes, many social media users have become convinced that 38-year-old Heard is not only copying Depp's fashion choices - but that she is doing it deliberately.

For example, on April 11, Depp wore a light grey suit to the trial. The following day, Heard also chose to wear a light grey suit.

This initial instance was not seen as a coincidence by some Twitter users, with one person sharing side-by-side images of the outfits, along with the caption: "Of course she's wearing [a] grey suit."

Then, on April 13, people were quick to point out that Heard had chosen to accompany her suit with a Gucci tie that featured a small embroidered bee - very similar to the Gucci tie worn by Depp on April 11.

"So weird. #JohnnyDepp wears a bee badge on his tie on day 1 of court case. On day 3 #AmberHeard is wearing one on her tie. What's the message here? Something private between them? Or her being bloody weird," one Twitter user wrote.

Another Twitter user went as far as to claim that Heard donning the tie was to "discreetly yet publicly mock" Depp. "It is a power play," they added.

"Since the beginning of the trial, Amber has tried to copy Johnny’s suits he wore the day before to the point that she even wore the same bee pin he had on his tie 2 days ago. a real comedian," one person tweeted.

Some fans even went as far as to accuse Heard of "copying" Depp's ponytail from April 18.

"Yesterday [Johnny Depp] had his hair tied into a ponytail and guess who showed up with a ponytail today," one person tweeted, once again sharing side-by-side screenshots.

Another added: "Even in court he wears a tie with a bee then she wears a tie with a bee. He wears a gray suit with a vest the next day she wears a gray suit with a vest. He wears a ponytail she wears a ponytail. Who does that? She is mocking him more abuse."

This Twitter user even won $20:

As the case has continued and both Depp and Heard accused each other of abuse within their relationship, social media users continued to compare the styles of both stars.

And rather than see Heard's outfit choices as a coincidence, there were many social media users who believed it was intentional.

"Amber Heard copying Johnny Depp's outfits the next day is textbook narcissistic behavior. I know the word narcissist has been thrown around everywhere lately, but check the DSM-5," one person wrote.

Another Twitter user wrote: "Amber Heard is playing mind games with Johnny Depp by copying his outfits in court."

"On the subject, I hope that the Court have acknowledged Ms Heard’s manipulative behaviour," one social media user wrote. "It is subtle but clear when attention is drawn to the fact, she is directly copying Depp’s Court outfits.

"This is a common manipulation tactic used to intimidate and mock."

"The way Amber Heard is copying Johnny Depp’s outfits and hair during their trial is some unhinged mind-games behavior," tweeted another.

With a trial this high-profile, it is unsurprising that every element of the case is being scrutinized so heavily by fans of both parties. However, is this a case of Heard deliberately playing "mind games" as people have been suggesting? Or simply a series of coincidences that people online are blowing out of proportion?
