Model Ruby Rose, the actress who made allegations of sexual assault against singer Katy Perry on Monday in a series of posts on social media, has added further detail to the accusations.
The claims surfaced on Threads after an article was shared about Perry’s reaction to Justin Bieber’s recent performance at Coachella. Perry, who attended the California festival alongside her partner Justin Trudeau, had commented on Bieber’s divisively understated set, but the discussion quickly shifted when Rose responded in the comments.
She wrote: “Katy Perry sexual assaulted me at spice market nightclub in Melbourne. Who gives a s*** what she thinks.”
After followers began asking for more details, Rose expanded on the allegation, explaining why she had not spoken publicly before.
“I was only in my early 20s. I’m now 40,” she said.
“It has taken almost 2 decades to say this publicly. Though I am so grateful to have made it long enough to find my voice, it just shows how much of an impact trauma and sexual assault takes.”
In a further reply, she described the alleged incident in graphic terms, claiming: “She didn’t kiss me. She saw me ‘resting’ on my best friends lap to avoid her and bent down, pulled her underwear to the side and rubbed her disgusting vagina on my face till my eyes snapped open and I projectile vomited on her.
“After it I threw up on her. I told the story publicly but changed it to be a ‘funny little drunk story’ because I didn’t know how else to handle it. Later she agreed to help me get my US visa. So I kept it a secret. But I DID tell yall she wasn’t a good person. Instead I got attacked by.. everyone.”
Rose also spoke about the emotional toll of revisiting the alleged experience, writing: “Before I open up about something incredibly raw and traumatic, I tell myself ‘it’s ok, you don’t need people to believe you, you just need to get it out of your poor body, before it gives you cancer.’
“But then I see this post and … tears consume me, in a good way. Thank you.”
Perry has since responded publicly to the claims, stating that they are "categorically false".
In a statement from a representative, it read: “The allegations being circulated on social media by Ruby Rose about Katy Perry are not only categorically false, they are dangerous, reckless lies,"
It continued: "Ms. Rose has a well-documented history of making serious public allegations on social media against various individuals, claims that have repeatedly been denied by those named."
The two have previously clashed publicly. In 2017, Rose criticised Perry’s music — including the track 'Swish Swish', calling it a “sloppy mess of writing” and “purposeful poop”, during a period when Perry was widely believed to be feuding with Taylor Swift, a friend of Rose.
At the time, Rose added: “I just think with everything going on in the world to go from rebranding as political activist only to ditch it and go low.. is.. a bummer.
“I’ve always stood up for the people I love and against things I think are cheap or mean spirited… That’s not new. You have to follow your [heart symbol].”
