Sinead O'Connor had revealed prior to announcing the death of her 17-year-old son that he had gone missing after being admitted to a hospital on suicide watch.
Yesterday, the 'Nothing Compares 2 U' singer wrote on Twitter that her son Shane "decided to end his earthly struggle today."
Two days earlier, on January 6, the distressed mother revealed that her son had been on suicide watch at Tallaght Hospital's Lynn Ward in Dublin and accused the hospital of negligence as the teen managed to escape the institution. She also threatened to take legal action against the hospital.
The singer, 55, wrote: "Like, how has a seventeen year old traumatised young person WHO WAS ON SUICIDE WATCH in Tallaght Hosptial’s Lynn Ward been able to go missing??? Hospital of course so far refusing to take any responsibility. Anything happens to my son on their watch? Lawsuits."
It was on January 8 that O'Connor took again to Twitter, this time to announce that her son had died.
She wrote: "My beautiful son, Nevi’im Nesta Ali Shane O’Connor, the very light of my life, decided to end his earthly struggle today and is now with God. May he rest in peace and may no one follow his example. My baby. I love you so much. Please be at peace."
The grieving mom has also taken to the platform to slam the Irish state in the wake of her son's death, writing: "26 hours after my son died in the so called care of the Irish State in the form of Tusla, I have yet to receive any contact from Tusla or their representatives.
"I was informed by Gardai of my son’s death and later I spoke with the GAL. No contact from Tusla is unacceptable."
She later slammed Tulsa for its lack of sensitivity regarding her son's recent passing.
She wrote: "My lawyer received this from Tusla’s lawyer. Can tusla pls finally note my child is not named “the remains”. His name is Shane “Yes, I’m instructed that your client has been advised that the identification of the remains will take place this afternoon”."
Our thoughts are with Shane's loved ones at this devastating time.
