It's often said that every saint has a past, and every sinner has a future. While it might be an overused sentiment, it's rare to see it come to pass explicitly in real life.

But prison inmates were recently captured on camera rushing to save a police officer's life after he suffered a heart attack.

The incident took place at Gwinnett County Jail, Georgia, when Deputy Warren Hobbs fell unconscious, prompting Terry Loveless, Walter Whitehead and Mitchell Smalls to take action that would ultimately save his life.

The three prisoners, who were in their cells, began to bang on their walls and shout for help after Deputy Hobbs fell unconscious at his desk after complaining about feeling unwell.

The noise created by the three men managed to temporarily bring Deputy Hobbs around and he was able to unlock their cells.

The three men then rushed out, and radioed for help and called 911.

The deputy was then rushed to the hospital to receive treatment before being discharged.

Chief Deputy, Lou Solis, subsequently arranged a pizza party for the unit as a thank you for the three prisoners' actions.

Deputy Hobbs said that the incident is a reminder of the importance of kindness.

Deputy Shannon Volkodav, Public Information Officer at the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office in Lawrenceville, said that the incident could have had a very different ending if the three men hadn't sprung into action.

She said it was a reminder that not all heroes look the way you'd expect them to - and proof that no matter where people are in life, they still have the potential to do good.

Unbelievably, however, this is not the first time that prisoners have been captured on camera saving a guard's life.
