A "heroic" Michigan police officer got more than he bargained for when he pulled over a speeding car in what he believed would be a routine traffic stop.

What's more, incredible dashcam footage from the police vehicle shows the moment the officer is forced to think quickly in order to save a child's life.

Warren police officer Brendan Fraser leaped into action when he heard the 18-month-old baby's mother cry out in desperation, per the New York Post.

"Help, help, we got a baby here dying," a voice can be heard in the footage, which has since gone viral and been shared by local news stations.

Fraser, who had pulled over the Chevrolet Camaro for speeding on Tuesday evening, immediately responded to the calls for help.

Check out the incredible moment unfold below (Warning - some viewers may find the footage upsetting):

Initially, the officer believed the car was going fast for different reasons. "I thought he was racing somebody, or maybe he was trying to get away from something," he said, according to CBS Detroit. It wasn't until the driver handed over the baby that Fraser realized the urgency.

"And then, really, now it made sense when he handed his baby over," Officer Fraser said. "He's headed to the hospital that's about three-quarters of a mile away."

In a heart-stopping revelation, the car had been speeding at an astonishing 75mph in a 45mph zone, in a desperate effort to get the child medical attention ASAP.

When faced with the child in his arms, Officer Fraser quickly noticed the baby turning blue and his eyes rolling to the back of his head. Wasting no time, he began administering back blows to clear the child's airways - all while trying to calm the baby's visibly distressed mother and uncle, the footage shows.

Fortunately, Officer Fraser's efforts were successful, as some sort of liquid was spat up, signaling that the child's airways were clearing.

"He's breathing, look at him, he's okay," Fraser announced, visibly relieved. Amazingly, Fraser even remained calm enough to quietly instruct the child's uncle: "Sir, can you get up so somebody doesn't run you over."

"It was a big relief, for sure," Fraser added, noting the color returning to the baby's lips, as reported by CBS Detroit.

The child was swiftly transported to the hospital by first responders and has since recovered, though it remains unclear what medical issue caused the episode. Warren Police Commissioner William Dwyer praised Fraser's actions in a statement to the Detroit News: "Officer Fraser’s actions on this traffic stop are nothing short of heroic."

"This incident shows that police work and traffic stops are not always about writing tickets or making arrests," Dwyer concluded.

Well done to Officer Fraser for his quick-thinking decisions and life-saving knowledge!
