Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Boebert could be heard interrupting President Joe Biden's State of the Union address on Tuesday night, NBC News reports.

Both women made several interjections throughout the speech, which earned them disapproving boos from fellow representatives.

Georgia Rep. Greene kicked off the heckling by grumbling throughout the Covid policy portion of Biden's speech. She then reportedly shouted out a remark about women's sports when the President mentioned new laws that target transgender citizens and their families.

When Biden moved on to talk about securing the border and immigration law, Greene was joined by Boebert, as both women tried to start a "build a wall" chant in reference to former President Donald Trump's infamous campaign slogan that called for a wall along the southern U.S. border.

But perhaps the most controversial moment came when Biden began discussing battlefield conditions that increase veterans' risk of developing cancer. As the President said that such conditions "would put [veterans] in a flag-draped coffin", Boebert called out "13 of them" - referring to the 13 US service members killed in an Afghanistan attack last year.

Boebert's remark proved particularly tasteless when - moments later - Biden mentioned that one such veteran was his son Beau Biden, who served in Iraq and died of brain cancer in 2015.

The Colorado Rep was booed by fellow lawmakers who later criticized her interruption as "inappropriate".

"Her disruption was inappropriate, especially given the substance of the comments that the president was making at the time, which is to continue this way, which is to protect service members and our veterans," Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand said per NBC News.

"It's something that I think that there's a place. That's not the place to do that," agreed Sen. Mike Braun.

Both Boebert and Greene have cultivated controversial public images.

Last year, Boebert had to issue an apology after she suggested that fellow Rep. Ilhan Omar was mistaken for a terrorist in an elevator - an incident which he claimed was entirely made up.

Meanwhile, Greene recently faced criticism for appearing at the far-right America First Political Action Conference, where TNR reports founder and host Nick Fuentes asked audiences to applaud Russia's invasion of Ukraine and praised Adolf Hitler just moments before introducing her as a guest speaker. She has also been suspended from Twitter and faced widespread derision for supporting conspiracy theorists QAnon.
