Marjorie Taylor Greene has been served a permanent suspension on Twitter.
The 47-year-old Republican Congresswoman has reportedly had her account suspended on the social media platform after continuing to share misinformation surrounding the Covid-19 pandemic.
In a statement to The Independent, a spokesperson for Twitter said:
"We permanently suspended the account you referenced (@mtgreenee) for repeated violations of our COVID-19 misinformation policy. We’ve been clear that, per our strike system for this policy, we will permanently suspend accounts for repeated violations of the policy."
Attempting to visit her Twitter page now will simply serve users with a blank screen and the message "Account Suspended", as seen below:
As reported by Insider, Greene has responded to the suspension on GETTR - the conservative social media platform launched by Jason Miller.
Miller had previously served as the chief spokesman during Donald Trump's successful 2016 presidential campaign. He was also appointed as a senior advisor for Trump's unsuccessful re-election campaign in 2020.
According to Insider, Greene wrote in a post: "When Maxine Waters can go to the streets and threaten violence on Twitter, Kamala and Ilhan can bail out rioters on Twitter, and Chief spokesman for terrorist IRGC can tweet mourning Soleimani but I get suspended for tweeting VAERS statistics, Twitter is an enemy to America and can't handle the truth.
"That's fine, I'll show America we don't need them and it's time to defeat our enemies."
Insider notes how Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters of California faced backlash from conservative supporters in 2018 after encouraging the public to "push back" on members of the Trump administration.
Greene's GETTR post also appeared to make an unfounded connection regarding Vice President Kamala Harris and Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota's support of the Minnesota Freedom Fund.
The Independent also notes how Greene's comments regarding the VAERS statistics were based on a conspiracy theory that has been repeatedly debunked.
Greene had previously received temporary suspensions throughout 2021, such as back in July when a spokesperson for Twitter told CBS that Greene's posts had shared "misleading" information about coronavirus and vaccines.
In August, Greene was handed another temporary suspension after sharing a tweet that said how the Food and Drug Administration "should not approve the covid vaccines" because they are "failing", CNN reports.
The new permanent suspension has only been applied to Greene's personal Twitter account, and not her official congressional office handle, @RepMTG. As of this writing, that account is still active.
