A Florida woman, accompanied by her teenage daughter and her friends, was ordered to leave an Airbnb property after they made a disturbing discovery.

Airbnb has quickly become one of the best ways to find accommodation when going away, but what started as an app to help sleep on someone's couch has turned into a rental service.

While you can still find some great offers, you can also rent castles now... which is pretty wild.

One of the aspects of the service that some people struggle with is the thought of sleeping at someone else's property, as opposed to a hotel.

Laura Schilling, accompanied by her daughter, three friends, and her mother, arrived in Lexington for an equine competition, per FOX 56.

However, upon reaching their temporary accommodation, they were greeted with an unsettling sight: the front door was wide open while the glass storm door remained closed.

Schilling, recounting the unnerving incident, expressed her discomfort with the situation and said that she thoroughly inspected the property before allowing the teenage girls inside.

Despite being her first time using Airbnb, she took all precautions. However, their unease escalated when they returned from a night out to discover someone had allegedly tampered with the deadbolt on the front door, even though they only used the garage entrance during their stay.

"One of the girls came in and told me that her window was open. My mom and I went to find that both windows in their room were indeed unlocked and cracked open," Schilling revealed to WQTV, noticing that all the windows in the house were left the same way, despite being certain they had secured them before leaving.

The situation took a sinister turn when Schilling spotted a suspicious vehicle parked across the street. As she approached the window, the car abruptly started and sped away, prompting her to contact law enforcement.

Thankfully, a deputy promptly arrived at the scene, although no evidence of forced entry was found.

Schilling said: "I feel like somebody was here to take the girls. I feel like we could have woken up to something very different tomorrow morning. And he (the deputy) said, trust your gut. He said I can’t say for certain that that’s what was happening."

The deputy advised them to leave the premises if they felt unsafe, prompting the group to relocate to a hotel for the remainder of their stay.

Schilling reached out to the Airbnb host, identified only as Rosanna, to report the unsettling occurrences. Despite her efforts, she has yet to receive a satisfactory response from Airbnb regarding the incident.
