On Monday (July 15) - exactly four weeks after the 19-year-old was reported missing - the Spanish Civil Guard revealed the heartbreaking news that search teams had discovered a body in the village of Masca, a short distance from where the Jay was last seen alive.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the Civil Guard said: "The mountain rescue and intervention group of the Civil Guard has located the lifeless body of a young man in the Masca area after 29 days of constant search.

"Given the complexity of the case, the discovery has been possible thanks to the incessant and discreet search carried out by the Civil Guard during these 29 days, in which the natural space was preserved so that it would not be filled with curious onlookers.

"All indications indicate that it could be the young British man who has been missing since June 17 in the absence of full identification.

"The first investigations reveal that he could have suffered an accident or fall in the inaccessible area where he was found."

Now, BBC News has reported that officials have confirmed that documents belonging to Jay Slater were also discovered on the body.

According to the Canary Islands High Court of Justice, a full and official identification of the body - as well as a definitive cause of death - may not be determined until next week.

However, in an official statement, the court confirmed: "It is established that the documentation recovered from the body found yesterday in the mountains of Masca belongs to Jay Slater, and all indications point towards an accidental fall."

Jay Slater, a resident of Oswaldtwistle in Lancashire, was last seen on June 17.

His disappearance followed his visit to an Airbnb with two individuals he had met while vacationing on the island for the NRG music festival on the island.

After leaving the Airbnb at approximately 8:00AM that morning, he made two calls to his friends Lucy Mae Law and Brad Hargreaves and informed them he was going to attempt to walk back to their accomodation - a journey that would have taken him over 10 hours.

His last pinged location was Masca's mountainous surroundings.

Per The Independent, a family source says: "There will be a PM [post-mortem] in Tenerife and probably one in the UK, and repatriation should be within a week or so, it's all time-dependent."
