The husband of the late Olympian Georgie Campbell has posted an emotional tribute after her sudden death earlier this week.
The 37-year-old tragically passed away on May 26 after sustaining an injury from a fall while competing at an equestrian event at the Bicton International Horse Trials in Devon, England.
Her horse, Global Quest, was uninjured and led back to its stable while medical professionals tended to the rider who succumbed to her injuries.
On the same day, British Eventing, which governs the equestrian sport of eventing in the country, released a statement announcing the tragic news.
"It is with deepest regret that we announce that Georgie Campbell (GBR) suffered a fatal accident whilst competing at the Bicton International Horse Trials in Devon, England on Sunday 26 May 2024," they wrote. "Medical professionals attended immediately following her fall at fence 5b however, unfortunately, she could not be saved."
The statement went on to add that Global Quest was checked over by on-site vets before concluding: "To respect the family’s privacy at this extremely difficult and sad time, no further details will be shared."
Now, less than a week after the news broke, Campbell's husband, Jesse Campbell, has taken to Instagram to post an emotional tribute in honor of his late wife.
"I love you so, so much," he started the post alongside a black-and-white image of the 37-year-old from the couple's wedding.
"This is my favorite photo of my beautiful wife. It’s from our wedding day in 2020 and it was the best day ever. People will talk about G’s smile, and it was incredible - it would make you feel like you were the center of the universe," he continued.
"But what I love about this photo is how it captures her strength. She was a strong, beautiful, phenomenal woman who just loved everything and everyone."
The heartbroken husband went on to state that the pair's line of work is a tough one, and there are many "dark days", but "G would navigate this by throwing so much joy and love at every situation."
He continued: "I’m so proud to be your husband. Rest in peace, my beautiful girl."
Campbell went on to thank the team at Bitcon, who were said to be extremely responsive in the aftermath of the accident.
"I don’t want this to sound like a thank you speech, but there are some people that I’d like to acknowledge and thank," he said. "The team at Bicton, who were beyond words in their care for Debbie, Diana, and me in the immediate aftermath; Tim, Jonelle, and their beautiful kids for getting me through the first 24 hours; and the Wolf Pack for being there ever since. T
"here have been so many incredible messages of support, and I’m sorry for not getting back to more of you, but please know that they have been read and are so appreciated."
He concluded with some poignant advice: "...When you’re out competing this weekend, please just smile at each other, don’t feel awkward about laughing, and above all, try and love everything and everyone."
Our thoughts and prayers are with Campbell's loved ones during this extremely difficult time.
