Resurfaced clip from 2007 shows Russell Brand discussing rape as he now faces significant prison sentence
In the days since former British comedian Russell Brand was found guilty of rape and sexual assault, old footage that portrays him as the predator he has been proved to be has resurfaced.
The former Hollywood star was found guilty of one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault, and while he is not set to be sentenced until Monday, he was told by a judge that he should expect a lengthy prison sentence.
Despite pleading not guilty to all charges, which span 10 years from 1999, Brand was found guilty on four counts.
They included raping a woman at his house in London and sexually assaulting three different women at their workplaces at a radio station and a TV studio.
Brand has long made inappropriate jokes about rape and sexual abuse
A clip from Channel 4's Big Fat Quiz of the Year 2007 has recently resurfaced as Brand is seen joking about rape, while another contestant on the show forces young pop star Lily Allen to move away from him "if she wants to go home with her dress on."
Veteran comic Jonathon Ross immediately asks why the only young woman on the show has been put next to "the best two cocksmen in the business", referring to Brand and another comedian, Noel Fielding.
Ross then makes Allen swap seats with him in order to keep her away from the perverted pair. In response, Fielding, who is known for his outlandish jokes and questionably quirky character, said: "How dare you? We're not rapists."
Referring to the vampire-inspired outfit his teammate is wearing, Brand quips: "There is no direct corollary between capes and rape, they just rhyme."
Escalating the inappropriate joke, Brand added: "What if, horror or horrors, he ain't even done a rape?"
Seconds later, he asked, "Have you done a rape?"
Fielding continued the jape with the now-convicted rapist, saying: "If I did, then I'd be leaving the scene like this," before covering his face with his cape and pretending to leave the set.
Brand's conduct on the show reflects his charges
Brand, 51, has been portrayed as a calculated manipulator and sexual predator during his trial, and has been given a custodial order until he is sentenced.
The judge also told him he should expect a lengthy prison sentence.
Speaking on the last day of the trial, Justice Bennathan said: "You’ve been convicted of a number of offences, including one of rape.
"The consequence of that is inevitably a significant custodial term.
"My current view is that I have to therefore remand you in custody.”
The defense asked for Brand to be granted an "act of humanity" by being allowed to return home this weekend to say goodbye to his children, but the judge refused and ordered him to be incarcerated immediately.
