Russell Brand's first night in prison revealed after rape conviction as details emerge of 'humiliating' ordeal
Shortly after being found guilty of one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault, British former comedian Russell Brand was taken to a high-security prison, where he is being monitored round the clock.
According to reports, the disgraced media personality was forced to hand over his clothes in reception before being humiliatingly strip-searched and scanned.
Then he was escorted to an induction wing and given a ‘first-night pack’ which consists of toiletries, including a toothbrush and toothpaste, and a food pack including cereal, tea, milk and sugar.
He was also provided with one toilet roll and two sets of grey prison tracksuits.
Allegedly, the rapist was also given sweet treats, consisting of polos, juice sticks, digestive biscuits and a vape pack, for some reason.
The comedian likely used his phone call to say goodbye to his wife
Brand was allowed, as all prisoners are, to make one three-minute phone call, most likely to his wife, Laura, who stuck by him throughout the lengthy and disturbing trial.
It is believed that the predator has been taken to the infamously harsh Wandsworth or Belmarsh prisons in London, where he has been prevented from mixing with the other inmates for his own safety.
Following procedure, Brand was asked about religious beliefs and offered a bible.
A nurse and wellbeing specialist are set to assess the 51-year-old today.
A source told The Sun: “The first night for anyone in a jail is really daunting - and Brand was petrified.
“It will be a massive shock to the system to him and he will be monitored around the clock.
“All prisoners have to strip off in reception which is humiliating and a real wake-up call.
“He will be in prison-issue clothes and given a first-night pack, which will be a world away from what he is used to.
“All his cockiness will disappear as he takes in his new surroundings.
“But he will be relatively safe and watched around the clock by officers and banged up away from other inmates to start with.
“Brand will be in London until and after his sentencing, but is then likely to be moved somewhere that specialises in sex offenders, where he is more out of harm’s way.”
Brand was not permitted to say goodbye to his children at home
The former Hollywood star is not set to be sentenced until Monday, but was told by a judge that he should expect a lengthy prison sentence.
Despite pleading not guilty to all charges, which span a 10-year period from 1999, Brand was found guilty on four counts.
They included raping a woman at his house in London and sexually assaulting women at their workplaces at a radio station and a TV studio.
Although the defence asked for an "act of humanity" in allowing Brand to return home this weekend to say goodbye to his children, the judge was not swayed, and he has been remanded in custody.
