Just two days after a bomb scare at the home of billionaire philanthropist George Soros, another similar package containing explosive materials has been intercepted at the home of Hillary and Bill Clinton - and addressed to Hillary, police have confirmed. Both homes are located in Westchester county, and the similarity of the packages has led to an investigation by the FBI.

On Monday, an employee of Mr Soros found a suspicious package, placed it in a densely wooded area, immediately alerting the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Firearms and Explosives. His Bedford home is only 10 miles from Chappaqua, where the Clintons have lived since the late 1990s.

On Wednesday, the US Secret Service released a statement confirming that they "has intercepted two suspicious packages addressed to Secret Service protectees". Thankfully, neither was delivered, and it has been reported that none of the intended targets were ever at risk during the incident. The statement continues:

"The packages were immediately identified during routine mail screening procedures as potential explosive devices and were appropriately handled as such.

"Both packages were intercepted prior to being delivered to their intended location. The protectees did not receive the packages nor were they at risk of receiving them."

They have already “initiated a full scope criminal investigation that will leverage all available federal, state, and local resources to determine the source of the packages and identify those responsible.” The FBI's New York office have confirmed that their Joint Terrorism Task Force is working with federal, state and local partners on the investigation.

Shortly after the bomb at the Clinton residence was discovered, it was found that the offices of former President Barack Obama also received a suspicious package, though the similarity of this package to the others is yet to be determined.

The investigators are currently combing over surveillance footage in the hopes that they find the culprit as soon as possible.

Donald Trump has been briefed on the situation, and the White House later issued a statement that read:

"We condemn the attempted violent attacks recently made against President Obama, President Clinton, Secretary Clinton, and other public figures. These terrorizing acts are despicable, and anyone responsible will be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.

"The United States Secret Service and other law enforcement agencies are investigating and will take all appropriate actions to protect anyone threatened by these cowards."

While concern has been raised over the similarities between the packages discovered at the Clinton and Soros residencies, no further formal statements have been made at this time.
