Kansas City, Missouri, has been hit by tragedy following the mysterious deaths of three friends who had gathered to watch a Chiefs game at a local friend's house.
The homeowner, Jordan Willis, had "no knowledge" of the grim tragedy transpiring in his own backyard, according to statements by his attorney.
Per Fox News, the Kansas City Police Department has reported that they do not suspect foul play in the deaths of Ricky Johnson (38), Clayton McGeeney (36), and David Harrington (37). However, their loved ones are now after answers.
These three close friends had assembled at Willis' house to enjoy the Kansas City Chiefs game against the Los Angeles Chargers on January 7. The game commenced at 3:25PM CT, and as the evening wore on, Willis retired upstairs to sleep, leaving the three men and another unnamed friend in his house.
Per the Daily Mail, Willis claims he remained inside his home on January 8 and was unaware of the victims' cars parked outside. Concerned loved ones of the missing men say they began attempting to contact Willis, who did not respond.
On January 9, Clayton McGeeney’s fiancée, growing frantic after two days of silence from her partner, took matters into her own hands. She reportedly broke into the home and screamed Willis' name. After finding one of the bodies on the back porch.
A subsequent police welfare check at 9:51PM led to the grim discovery of all three bodies on the property.
Captain Jake Becchina of the Kansas City Police Department asserted that the case was not being investigated as a homicide, emphasizing: "There have not been any arrests [or] charges, and no one is in custody." Furthermore, he assured that there were no immediate threats or concerns for the surrounding community.
Toxicology reports are pending, which could shed light on whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the men's tragic deaths.
Suzanne Reichart, a neighbor residing across the street, expressed her shock at the situation, telling FOX 4: "It’s very scary because I heard nothing. I’m home most of the time, but I didn’t hear anything. It’s kind of disturbing. It makes you wonder what’s going on. But if we don’t know yet, could it have been CO? It got cold all of a sudden."
John Picerno, the attorney representing Jordan Willis, vehemently defended his client, stating that Willis was oblivious to the grim situation unfolding outside his home until police intervened. Picerno contended that his client was sleeping with headphones on and a loud fan, preventing him from hearing the two individuals who came looking for the men.
Picerno acknowledged that one of the men's wives contacted Willis on Facebook Messenger but stated that Willis did not see the message until after police arrived.
Family and friends of the deceased have turned to social media, seeking answers and scrutinizing the homeowner's actions.
Frustrated and distraught, Kaylee La Tier, a friend of the victims, expressed her concerns on Facebook: "This man was inside his home alive while my friends were dead in his yard for lord knows how long... Dave, Clay and Ricky need and deserve justice."
Jonathan Price, Ricky Johnson's brother, pointed out discrepancies in the situation, telling the Daily Mail: "There's many different things that don't add up... We've heard that he's moving out as well, so we don't know if he'll even be sticking around much longer."
Johnson's father has also spoken out about the possibility of legal action, telling KSHB that he has retained an attorney and is waiting for a search warrant to be issued on the home. "I'm not going to stand back and let it go," the grieving father said. "I will go until the day I die to get this figured out."
Norma Chester, Johnson's mother, told the outlet: "I need them to find out what happened [...] I need them to find out what these boys were doing in the backyard."
Harrington's mother, Jennifer Marquez has stated, per the Daily Mail: "Nobody believes this story. None of his friends, none of the families, none of us believe it... Everybody is furious."
Per Fox News, another friend of the men - - took to Facebook following their deaths and wrote: "[Willis] was inside his home alive while my friends were dead in his yard for lord knows how long. They were all hanging out since after the game Sunday.
"He KNEW people were looking for them. He read messages of people searching for him on Tuesday. My husband banged on his door for 20 min. My friend banged on his door and then busted a window and yelled and announced her presence while she’s inside and still nothing from him??
"Then the cops come 10 min later and he comes out nonchalant in his boxers with an empty wine glass in hand??! Nothing is adding up. Dave, Clay, and Ricky need and deserve justice. They didn’t deserve this."
As the investigation unfolds, the community remains in suspense, seeking answers to the enigmatic circumstances surrounding the deaths of these three football fans.
