Donald Trump: why he might resign after midterm defeat
Donald Trump took a beating in the midterm elections, and there is now a lot of speculation on his future.
Despite the fact that he remains bullish about his prospects, there are now plenty of rumors swirling about whether he could leave office - or be pushed out.
Donald Trump’s midterm disaster
It’s fair to say that the elections didn’t go to plan for Trump and the Republicans.
The Democrats won an historic victory and will now control both the House and Senate, which could mean seriously bad news for Donald.
Still, in the aftermath of that chastening loss, Trump and the White House sent a warning out, letting Americans know that he is still in charge and will do almost anything to cling onto that power.
In other communications, he has hit out at Fox News hosts, texted into live TV shows, and even at one stage seemed quite humble, claiming he’d work with the Democrats.
Whether that actually happens or not remains to be seen.
One thing we do know is that there will be talk about removing Trump from power among both parties now.
That could happen via the 25th Amendment, a never-before-used rule that allows for a President to be replaced if he is deemed unfit, or by a third impeachment.
Either of those is a long shot, despite how much some top Democrats want to make Trump and his ‘crime family’ face the music.
However, there is another option too.
Trump might actually decide to resign from office
If Trump cannot be ousted by the Democrats or the Republicans - who may decide that they don’t fancy taking a similar tanking in the 2028 Presidential elections - there is another thing that might happen.
It’s quite simple really - and history tells us it might actually be the easiest option.
Convince Donald Trump to act in his own self interest.
Trump could be convinced to resign from office and let JD Vance take over in exchange for a Presidential pardon.
That is, if he agrees to step down and leave the White House, it will be guaranteed that he will not face any scrutiny, including legal or criminal proceedings once he has left office.
It’s no secret that the Trump family has made good money in office, both from stock trades, cryptocurrency, and a number of other ways.
It also stands to reason that the Democrats might want to investigate and punish him if they get in power.
That could happen, but it could all go away if he has a Presidential pardon signed by President JD Vance.
But, would Trump do it?
According to his latest posts, it doesn’t seem likely.
If anything, he’s as bullish as ever about his future.
In a recent White House communique, the adminstration wrote: “Every time the Radical Left, the Fake News, and the professional panic class have written President Trump’s obituary, they have been wrong. "They will be wrong again.”
That same post added: "President Trump’s record is a contrast they cannot erase: border security, the end of DEI, energy independence, the protection of our kids, and much more.
"Attempts to impeach him, claw back his agenda, or reverse the gains of his Administration will meet the same fate as the Radical Left’s previous attempts: failure.
"President Trump will never stop fighting.”
The truth behind that statement remains to be seen - but at this point a snap resignation seems unlikely, no matter how personally beneficial it might be to Trump himself.
