Prosecutors have revealed more details about the events that led up to the fatal mass shooting at Oxford High School in Michigan last week.
Fifteen-year-old Ethan Crumbley is currently facing murder and terrorism charges - among others - after being accused of fatally shooting four of his fellow students and injuring seven others at the school on Tuesday.
Now, officials have revealed more information about the events leading up to the deadly shooting.
As reported by CNN, Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald announced that Ethan's father, James Crumbley, bought the gun authorities believe was used in the school shooting on November 26.
McDonald told reporters on Friday that shortly after the purchase, Ethan posted a photo of a gun to his Instagram page, alongside the caption: "Just got my new beauty today. SIG SAUER 9mm." This was accompanied with a heart-eyes emoji.
A Law enforcement official told CNN that Ethan's mother, Jennifer Crumbley, took him to a shooting range the weekend prior to the deadly shooting at Oxford High School. CNN states that efforts were made by its reporters to contact the shooting range the source believes the pair visited, but they were unsuccessful.
She also reportedly shared a post on social media about the gun, describing a visit to the gun range as a "mom and son day testing out his new Christmas present".
The Detroit Free Press adds that prosecutors obtained video footage showing the mother and son trying out the firearm at a shooting range near their home Saturday.
On the day before the shooting, Ethan Crumbley was seen by a teacher searching for ammunition on his cell phone. Prosecutors revealed that the teacher did report the activity to school officials. When Jennifer Crumbley was alerted to this incident, she reportedly said to her son in a text: "LOL I'm not mad at you. You have to learn not to get caught."
Then, on Tuesday, a teacher at the school was first alarmed by the 15-year-old's behavior after discovering a note on her desk that featured a sketch of a semiautomatic handgun pointing at the words: "The thoughts won't stop, help me."
McDonald said that the drawing also included an image of a bullet with the words "Blood Everywhere" written above it. And below a figure of somebody who appeared to have been shot, a laughing emoji could be seen.
James and Jennifer Crumbley were "immediately summoned" to the school.
McDonald told reporters: "At the meeting, James and Jennifer Crumbley were shown the drawing and were advised that they were required to get the — their son into counseling within 48 hours."
She then added that the parents "failed to ask their son if he had his gun with him or where his gun was located and failed to inspect his backpack for the presence of the gun which he had with him."
Per The Independent, neither Jennifer nor James Crumbley alerted the school to the fact that their son had access to a semi-automatic handgun - even after they were told about Ethan searching for ammunition and a teacher discovering the violent drawing.
On Friday, it was announced that both James and Ethan Crumbley were each to be charged with four counts of involuntary manslaughter.
