Reports surrounding the mysterious deaths of three men following a Kansas City Chiefs watch party reveal that one of the men's fiancées visited the suburban Northland home in a desperate attempt to find answers.
The mysterious deaths of David Harrington, 37, Ricky Johnson, 38, and Clayton McGeeney, 36, have left a community in disbelief and have raised numerous questions about the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
The New York Post has now reported that one of the men's fiancées took matters into her own hands when her partner went missing after the watch party.
On the evening of January 9, April Mahoney - who was engaged McGeeney - desperately pounded on the door of the Kansas City rental belonging to Jordan Willis, where the men had last been seen. After receiving no response, she broke in through a basement window, only to make a gruesome discovery in the snow-covered backyard.
Mahoney initially spotted one frozen body, David Harrington, seated upright in a lawn chair.
McGeeney's cousin, Jim McGeeney, told The Post that Mahoney was so overwhelmed by shock, she didn't realize that her fiancé, was also among the deceased and was lying alongside Johnson's body.
Mahoney immediately called the police, prompting a swift response.
McGeeney recounted the traumatic incident, saying: "April saw David and she totally panicked and almost couldn’t breathe, and she called the police."
The cops showed up within minutes and Jordan opens the door no problem, wearing his boxers and holding an empty wine glass," McGeeney told The Post.
The circumstances surrounding the deaths have only deepened the mystery.
The temperature in the backyard during the early morning hours of January 8 was just above freezing.
Preliminary toxicological results have shed some light on what may had contributed to the men's cause of death.
According to FOX 4 Kansas City, The Kansas City Police Department obtained the early report for the three victims, and it showed that there were "several" substances in their bodies. TMZ also reported that the results revealed that traces of cocaine and fentanyl were found, citing sources close to the case.
While the police have not labeled the case as foul play, some family members of the deceased have raised concerns about Willis' involvement. David Harrington's father, Jon Harrington, voiced his suspicions, stating: "There were four of you in the house, and now three of them are dead, and you're not. That doesn't add up."
Alex Waemer-Lee - another friend who attended the evening - gathered at the rental after the Chiefs' victory over the Los Angeles Chargers. Waemer-Lee has since stated that had left the gathering around 11:00PM that night, allegedly leaving the four others behind watching Jeopardy!
Willis has claimed to have gone to sleep around 12:30AM, with his friends still present, but his stories have slightly changed over time. He initially claimed to have seen them leave.
The evening of January 9, Mahoney and Johnson's mother, Norma Chester, became concerned about the missing men. They contacted Waemer-Lee, but he received no response from Willis.
Later that night, a close friend, Dakota LaTier, tried knocking on Willis' door for about 20 minutes with no response.
Willis was briefly handcuffed but released without charge when the police found no evidence of foul play.
Alayna Gonzalez, a spokeswoman for the Kansas City Police Department, emphasized: "This still remains a death investigation and nothing more. We still have no evidence or indication of foul play, no one is in police custody."
On January 20, Willis' defense attorney, John Picerno, released a statement claiming that Willis was "unaware" of his friends' deaths as he had been asleep with "earbuds" in and a loud "fan" running next to him.
Willis has since checked into rehab, recognizing that he has a problem with addiction. The deaths of his friends served as a wake-up call, prompting him to confront his addiction and seek help.
In a report shared with Fox News Digital, a source close to Willis said: "After the shocking loss of three of his close friends under extremely tragic circumstances, Jordan recognized that he had a problem with addiction [...] He immediately checked himself into rehab after vacating his home and putting his things into storage."
A GoFundMe set up to help financially support Mahoney currently stands at over $10,000.
