Gypsy Rose Blanchard speaks out about 'soulmate' fiancé's death
Gypsy Rose Blanchard has spoken out following the sudden loss of her partner, Ken Urker, addressing the intense public pressure he faced and calling him her soulmate. Urker was found dead at his home in Raceland, Louisiana, on October 1, which was his 34th birthday.
Blanchard became concerned after he failed to respond to a birthday message she sent him. She later indicated that she suspects the cause of death may have been an overdose, noting that he had not been in a good state of mind recently, though official details regarding the situation remain under investigation.
The Lafourche Sheriff's Office confirmed they responded to a residence in Raceland at 6:15PM, where Urker was found deceased. Authorities have stated that the investigation into his death is ongoing.
In the wake of the news, Blanchard shared a message on social media expressing her grief and addressing the negative attention her partner faced online. She highlighted how social media comments and ongoing scrutiny affected him during their time together.
Before her release from prison in December 2023, Blanchard gained widespread public attention due to her conviction in the 2015 death of her mother, Clauddine "Dee Dee" Blanchard.
The case drew major national focus after details emerged about years of severe physical and psychological abuse inflicted by her mother, who suffered from factitious disorder imposed on another.
Since completing her sentence, Blanchard has shared her personal life openly through interviews, a published memoir, and social media platforms.
Tragic loss and online scrutiny
In a statement posted to her Instagram Stories, Blanchard paid tribute to Urker while condemning the harsh behavior directed toward him across various digital platforms. "Ken was an amazing father and a man who was deeply loved. He will forever be my soulmate and my red string, a connection that time, distance, and even death can never erase," she wrote.
She added in a separate carousel: "You will always be my greatest love story. You will be remembered and loved forever. ❤️"
Blanchard emphasized the toll that social media attention had taken on Urker over time. "Ken endured an unimaginable level of public scrutiny and relentless cyberbullying across social media platforms, including TikTok and Reddit," she stated.
"The cruelty directed toward him was something no human being should have to endure. I believe the tremendous weight of that scrutiny and harassment had a profound impact on him, and I hope his passing serves as a reminder that there is a real person behind every screen, every headline, and every comment."
A complex history together
High school and personal milestones marked their relationship over several years. Urker initially proposed to Blanchard in October 2018 while she was serving her prison sentence. Though they later called off their engagement and spent years apart, the two reunited in August 2024 following Blanchard's separation from her former husband, Ryan Anderson.
The couple shared a child together, a daughter named Aurora, who was born in December 2024. Blanchard expressed her commitment to keeping Urker's memory alive for their child despite the external noise. "Above all, Ken loved our daughter, Aurora.
She is a beautiful reflection of his enduring spirit, and through her, a part of him will always remain with us," she wrote.
She pledged to "make sure she grows up knowing how deeply her father loved her and who he was beyond what strangers on the internet chose to say about him," concluding her statement with, "He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten".
