'Motive' revealed after mom allegedly killed husband and 3-year-old son
A Pennsylvania mother charged with the double murder of her family members allegedly harbored deep resentment toward her young child and never wanted to become a mother in the first place, according to newly revealed court documents.
Search warrant applications obtained by law enforcement shed light on a troubling dynamic within the household prior to the violent attack.
Investigators revealed that 27-year-old Metallica Rose Harrison allegedly killed her husband, Charles, and their three-year-old son during what was meant to be a family vacation. The family was staying at the Great Wolf Lodge resort in Scotrun, Pennsylvania, when the horrific double homicide occurred on Monday, October 12.
According to statements given to police by family members, Harrison maintained a high degree of control over her household and resented her child for coming between her and her spouse. Investigators noted in a search warrant application obtained by WNEP that Harrison was "dominant, controlling, and felt resentful towards the child, stating that she never wanted to get pregnant."
Allegations of resentment and control
Family members told investigators that Harrison actively worked to keep her husband's family away from both him and his young son. The search warrant application details how "Harrison made statements about the child taking away one-on-one time between her and Charles." Authorities state that she allegedly isolated her husband's family members from the pair leading up to the tragedy at the Pocono Mountains resort.
When officers arrived at the Great Wolf Lodge on Monday afternoon, they discovered that Harrison had allegedly stabbed her husband and three-year-old son in the chest before attempting to take her own life.
Upon encountering law enforcement at the scene, she reportedly told police officers that she was "suicidal, not stupid," and refused to answer any additional questions about the incident.
Disturbing statements during medical transport
While receiving medical treatment from emergency medical services, Harrison continued to make emotional claims about her role in the family. A police affidavit indicates that she moaned about her efforts as a parent and spouse while emergency personnel worked to treat her injuries.
"Every day I work so hard. To be the best person, the best mother, the best wife," she said, according to court documents.
She further expressed distress over the violent outcome during her interactions with medical responders, making additional statements while being transported. "It wasn't supposed to end like this. I was supposed to have my happy family. That's what I envisioned since I was a child," Harrison reportedly said. While riding inside the ambulance, the affidavit states that she repeatedly claimed she was "not supposed to be here."
Harrison now faces formal charges following her arrest by the Pocono Township Police Department as authorities continue their investigation into the resort killings.
