From the moment Barack Obama became America's leader, we always had an inkling that he would be kind of cool to have around.
Our suspicion appeared to be well-founded when, appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, we watched him turn the news into a slow-jam song. It was then further heightened when he danced Michael Jackson's Thriller dance with Michelle at a White House Halloween party, and it was completely and utterly confirmed when he said "Obama out," kissed two fingers to his lips, and dropped his mic at his last White House Correspondents' dinner.
It was official: Obama was the coolest president ever.
But just because he's departed the Oval Office, it doesn't mean that we're not still graced with his cool-as-a-cucumber shenanigans from time to time. In fact, they were on full show at the weekend, when the former president and his wife attended a Beyoncé and Jay-Z concert and well and truly lived their best life, dancing up a storm.
The 56-year-old and his 54-year-old partner didn't miss a beat when they hit up the On the Run II Tour in Landover, Maryland. But, perhaps the phrase "danced like no one was watching" isn't that appropriate in this instance - to be completely clear, everyone was watching and, luckily for all of us, they took videos.
The Obamas sure do have the moves, huh? Do you feel as lame as me admitting that a mum and dad duo can dance better than you?
Understandably, people were pretty overwhelmed to not only be near Beyoncé and Jay-Z, but to be close to the Obamas too. In fact, it was a little too much for some people, who decided to take to social media to express their amazement at the situation.
"Best day of my life EVER, I seen Beyoncé , Jay z, Barack & Michelle Obama, and one of Beyoncé’s twins !!!!!! Best day ever !!!" posted Twitter user @_Rosvlee. She was joined by fellow user @Sammy_Caroline, who got a little too overexcited, writing: "Obama is at Beyoncé’s concert I wanna cry IM BREATHING THE SAME AIR AS MY PRESIDENT. [sic]"
Of course, when there's a story about a former president, someone on social media always has to relate it back to President Donald Trump. Roland Schahill was the man for the job this time, writing: "Since Michelle and Barack Obama were seen happily dancing at a sold out Beyoncé & Jay-Z concert, Donald & Melania Trump will show them up by awkwardly standing side by side at a poorly attended Ted Nugent sing-a-long".
In addition, there obviously can't be a story about Obama without someone getting their knickers in a twist. That person this time was American journalist, and Chief Washington Correspondent for CNN, Jake Tapper, who seemingly tweeted to bash the Obamas for attending the concert, writing: "The Democratic Party is the weakest it has been since the 1920s, but ¯_(ツ)_/¯... Kind of a combo of 2 and 3. Glad he’s enjoying his life; he’s entitled. Also, FYI, as we begin focus on Nov 2018 and 2020, he presided over a historically precipitous decline of his party. Just a factual matter. Some Dems seem angrier at my tweet than at that fact. ¯_(ツ)_/¯"
After tweeting, he was inundated with furious comments from Obama supporters, who claimed he was turning a fun night out into a political story. "Barack Obama is no longer president. It's no longer his responsibility what happens to the Democratic party. HE CAN DANCE TO BEYONCE IF HE GODDAMN WANTS TO," commented @astridkie42.
We agree! The Obamas are out there living their best lives, and we absolutely bloody love it.
