Tragic last photos of Rob Reiner and wife taken before couple found dead with stab wounds at LA home

The heartbreaking final photos of Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were taken just weeks before the couple was found dead, reportedly with stab wounds, in their Los Angeles home.

As previously reported, the Hollywood icon and his wife were discovered dead in their $13.5 million Brentwood home on Sunday, December 14, by their daughter, Romy.

Sources told TMZ the couple's injuries were consistent with a knife attack. The LAPD confirmed there was no sign of forced entry, and the deaths are being treated as an “apparent homicide”.

No arrests have been made, and no suspects have been officially named, though their 32-year-old son Nick Reiner is believed to be a person of interest.

According to PEOPLE, Nick is currently alive and being questioned by law enforcement.

Final vacation photos shared by daughter

The tragedy unfolded just weeks after the couple’s daughter, Romy, shared heartwarming photos from a recent family vacation on Instagram.

One post from November 29 showed Reiner in the water wearing a baseball cap, looking relaxed. In another shared on December 1, Romy wrote that she was “thankful” for family and her health, a poignant message in hindsight.

The comment section has now been inundated with heartfelt condolences from followers.

"Much love from a stranger. I know it doesn't help much, but I wanted to send it your way. I'm so immensely sorry for your loss. You and your family will be in my prayers tonight and every night to follow," one user wrote.

"Saying prayers ascending strength to you during this difficult time. I can’t even imagine," a second added.

As the investigation continues, tributes from Hollywood stars and political heavyweights have flooded in, honoring Reiner’s incredible legacy as both a filmmaker and an activist.

Ben Stiller called him one of his favorite directors, praising his ability to rise from the shadow of his father, Carl Reiner. “Spinal Tap is one of the best comedies ever made,” he wrote on X. “He was a kind, caring person who was really really funny.”

Josh Gad described the late couple as “two of the most kind and caring souls,” and said their deaths were “devastating.”

California Governor Gavin Newsom called Reiner a “big-hearted genius” whose films “taught generations how to see goodness and righteousness in others.” He added: “Rob will be remembered for his remarkable filmography and for his extraordinary contribution to humanity.”

Former President Barack Obama echoed that sentiment, writing: “Rob’s achievements in film and television gave us some of our most cherished stories on screen. But beneath all of the stories he produced was a deep belief in the goodness of people and a lifelong commitment to putting that belief into action.

"Together, he and his wife lived lives defined by purpose. They will be remembered for the values they championed and the countless people they inspired. We send our deepest condolences to all who loved them," he concluded.

A career defined by classics and causes

Reiner, born in the Bronx, launched his career as Michael “Meathead” Stivic on All in the Family, winning two Emmys.

He then became one of the most influential directors of his era, with hits like This Is Spinal Tap, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally..., and A Few Good Men.

In addition to directing, he acted in projects including The Wolf of Wall Street and this year’s acclaimed series The Bear.

He also co-founded Castle Rock Entertainment, the company behind Seinfeld and The Shawshank Redemption.

Outside Hollywood, Reiner was a devoted political activist. He led campaigns for early childhood education, battled Big Tobacco, and fought for same-sex marriage rights, often lending his voice to liberal causes.

His passion for advocacy and incredible storytelling made him a respected figure across both entertainment and political spheres.

Michele, his wife of over three decades, was a respected photographer and producer. The couple collaborated on several projects and were still active in the industry until their deaths.
