A South African woman who claimed to have given birth to 10 babies earlier this month has now been admitted to a psychiatric ward.
Gosiame Thamara Sithole, 37, from Tembisa claimed to have birthed the ten babies, known as decuplets, on June 7, the iPaper reports.
However, local and national papers began to dispute her claim, with her husband Teboga Tsotetsi asking people to stop donating to the woman as he, too, has not yet seen the ten babies.
In a statement released last week, he said that he "has not seen the decuplets and relied on his girlfriend who called to inform him of their birth."
It added: "He made several attempts to visit his girlfriend and the babies but she has failed to disclose her whereabouts and the condition of their babies.
"The family has resolved and concluded that there are no decuplets born between Tebogo Tsotetsi and Gosiame Sithole, until proven otherwise."
iPaper reports that Sithole has now been evaluated at a psychiatric facility.
"I appreciate the financial support that we have been getting from members of the public, but I also would like to appeal to the public to stop making money deposits into our accounts until members of the community have seen the babies," Tsotetsi told local newspaper Pretoria News, per Daily Mail.
He explained that he hasn't seen his wife since she allegedly gave birth on June 7, despite no hospitals, public or private, having any evidence of Sithole giving birth.
Per New York Post, Pretoria News claims to have proof of the birth, but they are withholding the information for "cultural and religious reasons."
If the birth was true, it would mean that Sithole would have beaten the previous world record holder, also known as Octomom Nadya Suleman, who gave birth to six boys and two girls in 2009.
Despite the doubts surrounding the birth, if true, Tsotetsi said that he is excited to meet his ten children, with New York Post reporting that he accepted over $70,000 in public donations for them.
"I can't wait to have them in my arms," he previously told local media.
