A woman has shared the two vastly different texts she received from her bosses as they reacted to the news of a family emergency.
In an interview with Buzzfeed, Hillary Zinks opened up about the realization she came to about her careers after a tragedy saw her sister unexpectedly fall into a coma before passing away, leaving Zinks in a horrible situation.
"She [Hilary's sister] was completely unresponsive and the nurses were looking for next of kin to make decisions on her behalf if need be," she said. "I was broken-hearted, frozen. I didn't even have time to register all of this before deciding to leave to be with her."
Of course, she notified her two bosses; her first was her manager at her job as a makeup and effects artist in the film industry, and the second was her manager at a restaurant where she had been working as a server to help supplement her income.
The former seemed to be understanding, empathizing with Zinks and the terrible situation.
"When that boss found out, she was like, 'Hillary please go home. Do whatever you need to do. Be with your family. Be with your mom. Whatever you can. There is no job in this world that is worth missing life over," she said.
She continued: "She is very well known and HUGE in the industry. To have someone with her experience in film and life tell me to 'never let a job get in the way of life' and 'do whatever I need to do' was exactly what I needed to hear."
Zinks also added that her bosses' response made her feel like a "human" rather than just another cog in a machine.
However, she received an entirely different response from her other boss, who seemed rather inconvenienced by the message.
Taking to TikTok, the influencer, who boasts over 500,000 followers on the video-sharing platform, posted some screenshots of the exchange. Have a look at the video below:
"I do understand and I am sorry for what you are experiencing. I'm curious why you are letting me know 2 hours prior to your shift?" the first text read.
But things only got worse as the boss continued the conversation.
"It is my job to create a positive work environment for all staff. We have a fifty top today and only 2 scheduled staff members for the shift... we will make it work, we always do. It just makes it hard on the crew that does show up."
Can you believe it?
"I was angry and upset about it the rest of the drive. The closer I got to the hospital, the more I realized how her behavior was absolutely unacceptable and I couldn't work under her any longer," Zinks said in her interview.
So of course, when she arrived at her destination, she quit.
And just to really add emphasis to how annoyed she was, she also sent over a photograph of her holding up her sister's hand and flipping her the bird.
"We don't need to work for people who barely see us as humans with emotions and families. I hope that anyone who has that type of experience has the means and courage to quit. I hope any managers that would have done something similar would now take a step back and learn from her mistakes," she said.
We hope that Zinks has managed to find another boss who values her and her hard work... unlike her ex-manager.
