A woman told her sister that she couldn't attend her brother-in-law's funeral because she would much rather go to a Taylor Swift concert.
Taking to Reddit's infamous 'Am I the A**hole' thread, a concerned user whose account has since been deleted from the platform, opened up about her ongoing dilemma.
The thread was later used as the topic of discussion of a popular TikTok account - @SMOSH - where it was read out by host Shayne Topp and then later discussed between the guests.
"Am I the a**hole for telling my sister I can't attend my brother-in-law's funeral?" Topp started.
As the user recalled in the post, her sister's husband passed away unexpectedly.
"This is a shock and absolutely devastating for us. The funeral is coming up soon," she wrote, but suddenly the tone of the entire thing started to change and the somber mood was suddenly replaced with a hint of excitement as the user started talking about an upcoming Taylor Swift concert.
"I'm sure you all know that Taylor Swift is currently on tour and tickets for that were notoriously difficult to get..."
Immediately after Topp read out that part of the post, the guests all burst out laughing almost as if they knew where this was going.
The user then goes on to explain the impact of the 34-year-old singer in her life before saying: "It might sound dramatic to some people which is fine but I truly feel Taylor and her music is a massive part of my life."

The user then went on to explain that she had wanted to get to the stadium by 5PM at the latest, noting it would take approximately 40 to 50 minutes to get there. And of course, she had a "specific outfit" she wanted to wear to the show, which would require even more time to sort out.
"The funeral is in the afternoon and the timing is very close, I wouldn't be able to make it to the stadium in time," she continued. "I told my sister gently I'm sorry, but I can't make it to the funeral. She didn't take this well at all and completely went off on me, calling me selfish and a bunch of other things."
She claimed that her sister was grieving so she probably said those things out of anger, but she said that her parents were also extremely vocal about the situation.
"...Even our parents are calling me unsupportive and selfish for not coming."
Let's just say the discussion in the comment section was wild.
"I would *literally* never talk to my sister again. And she’s my best friend," wrote one user, while another agreed that it's a selfish response: "Someday she will realize what really matters and how incredibly selfish she is. I would never be able to forgive this."
"Also Taylor Swift will have tons more tours in future, it's not the end of the world missing her show," a third said.

"If I’m dead and the funeral falls on the same day of an event of any of the people there I would rather them go to a happy event instead of mourningz [sic]," this user stated.
"If the sister were okay with it, it'd be totally fine. Living gotta keep on living, I wouldn't want anyone missing out on anything," added another.

"Like just go to the funeral and then later to the concert..."

"She thinks she’s an anti-hero," wrote Terry while Lo also chimed in with a pretty good one, writing: "If the sister didn’t go to her BIL’a funeral, you could say that her and her sister have… 'bad blood.'"
In the end, the guests ruled that this user was in fact the a**hole, but what do you think about the entire fiasco?
