A couple in Texas were left horrified after finding an abandoned newborn with her umbilical cord still attached.

Daniela Fedele and her husband were strolling along Casa Martin Drive in Katy on Saturday (June 15) morning when they saw a towel on the ground.

Concerns were raised after the couple's three-year-old daughter rode her bike toward the towel and Fedele realized something was moving underneath.

"I noticed two little feet moving and then my husband was right behind me with the dogs and I yelled to my husband and I'm like, 'Oh my God, a baby, a baby,'" Fedele told KHOU. "And then my husband [says] like, 'Call 911, call 911.'"

According to Daily Mail, surveillance footage providing more details on the shocking incident has been shared online.

The video, which has not been released, showed the moment an unidentified man scanned around him before leaving the infant on the ground, and fleeing the scene.

Police don't know how long the newborn was abandoned before Fedele saved it, with Harris County Sheriff's deputies saying they got a call around 9AM and rushed to the scene shortly after.

Authorities have added that they have since started an investigation to search for him, describing him as a young Hispanic or White male with a slim build, fair complexion, and black hair. They said he was wearing a black shirt and possibly gray pants.

Another CCTV footage captured the moment the couple ran towards the baby with their dogs. Fedele's husband grabbed the newborn and raced to get the child out of the sun.

"Once my husband went ahead and picked up the baby, he found the nearest, like tree, right there at the house down the street. He found a little shade," the woman told the outlet.

They held on to the baby girl until deputies arrived on the scene. They also told officials they saw a man running away from the scene.

Sgt. Juan Garcia, who works in the Child Abuse Unit, said: "The two witnesses that were thankfully walking on the trail with their daughter and their dogs were a blessing."

"The baby was a newborn... still had, you know, fresh placenta on the baby, so it was freshly born this morning," he noted.

Fedele shared that she is in shock from finding the abandoned newborn and wonders how somebody could do that.

"I was shocked, I was mad, I was upset,'" she said. "You can drop it off at a fire station, a police station, a hospital, I don't know... but don't leave the baby."
