People on the internet have been left scratching their heads after a photo an owner took of their dog went viral on Twitter.
While dog pics are arguably the best thing to exist on the internet (seriously, what did we humans do to deserve those little fluffballs?), Twitter user Arthur Gubert's snap of a seemingly headless dog caused us all to do a cartoon-like double-take.
Taking to Twitter, Gubert posted a clip of his pooch in the garden - and it led to quite a horrified response at first glance.
And while his dog is likely very cute, users were more concerned as to exactly where its head was - given that there was a nasty looking scar where it should be.
He shared it along with the caption (translated from Spanish): "This is what a dog with three legs looks like licking its tail. Now you've seen it all."
The image understandably went viral and was posted across hundreds of websites, including Facebook. Naturally, users were fascinated with the image and couldn't help but comment.
One person joked: "How does he feed?", while other people seemed genuinely concerned that the dog actually had no head, with someone writing: "I'm sorry the dog has no head put him down he is probably suffering [right now]."
"I just want to know who would be sick enough to do this to any animal," a further user chimed in.
"Oh no no no no no Where Head Dog Why Cut People!!! Poor Dog Head [sic]," another comment read.
Fortunately, the majority of people understood that the photo was just an optical illusion and could see the humor in it all.
"Some ppl are so gullible. That incision is his amputated leg. He is most likely biting his butt," someone wrote.
"Literally can see a part of his blue collar on the side and it's obvious his head is turned around, anyone smart enough to use their brain and eyes would know that [...]," another user added.
As it turns out, the poor pooch had gone through a tough time - having had one leg amputated not long before. He was turning around to lick himself when his owner snapped the 'headless' photo.
Luckily, one user found an old image of the pup, who did in fact have a head (but was missing a leg).
