Any dog owners out there will confirm my point that owning a dog just makes life so much better. They're loyal, passionate, playful, and caring companions that are truly deserving of the 'Man's Best Friend' moniker.

However, I will also urge anybody out there that is thinking of getting a dog to rescue, as it helps save a dog from a life in a cage (and potential euthanasia), helps relieve the pressure of rescue shelters, and helps fight against puppy mills.

But sadly, according to the ASPCA, 3.3 million dogs are still entering shelters each year in America alone for a variety of reasons.

And if you've ever been averse to rescuing a dog, just check out the following video that was shared by the Carson Shelter in Gardena, California, and you'll not only cry, but definitely change your mind on adoption.

Staff at the Carson Shelter recorded the moment a pitbull "realized" he was being adopted - and his reaction is just the sweetest thing.

The pitbull, named Benny, was first brought in to the Carson Animal Care Center when he was just eight months old. Thankfully, a family - who have remained anonymous - chose to provide him with a forever home, and the moment he left his cage for the final time was captured on camera by staff.

The Saving Carson Shelter Dogs captioned the heartwarming video:

"This special little guy captured the hearts of everyone who stopped by his kennel. He hit the jackpot when this beautiful family chose to take him home. Thanks for all you SHARING, checkout his FREEDOM WALK filled with lots of jumps and tail wagging! Happy life sweet BENNY."

Check out the video below (have tissues ready):

Benny appears cautious at first, but after realizing he is being adopted, his tail starts wagging uncontrollably and he repeatedly jumps for joy. I. Am. Crying.

The tear-jerking video has since been viewed more than 5.3 million times on Facebook, and received over 3.4 comments - many of whom are well-wishers thanking Benny's new owners for providing him with a forever home and happy life.

Others reiterated the importance of adoption - and after seeing this video, how could you not?

Sadly not all animals can avoid rescue shelters. This is the moment an overfed 35lbs cat called Bazooka was led into a center by staff:
