Aaron Carter's manager has shared the heartbreaking final text messages he received from the singer before his sudden death earlier this month.
Speaking to The Sun US, Taylor Helgeson recalled the last conversation he had with the 34-year-old, stating that he was "optimistic" about the future of his music career.
"He was so excited, he was extremely optimistic," Helgeson told the outlet. "It was a few years since we released Love, and he felt ready to do another [album]. I got these incredible producers from Denmark to fly out to produce his album and it was the first time in a while that I've seen him so excited.
"He had more [to give], and he didn't quit," Helgeson added.
Helgeson said that he had asked the singer how he was doing after Carter dropped him a text to "check in" with him.
"[He replied] 'I'm just headed back to the house. I was in L.A. All good though. Things are looking up.' And I said, 'I know it.'"
The singer then replied with: "Holy s***! The new album, what the f***? This is definitely a Grammy!" to which the manager responded with: "Yeah, and you deserve it."
The final text message was received at 6:32PM and it read: "Huge! Our best work yet", and that was the last conversation between the two before the news of Carter's death was announced.
"We don't know what happened. We know that he called me," Helgeson recalled. "I was on a plane, so he called my friend, his friend as well, and he asked to come to the house to record some music, to start tracking these vocals, and from what I heard, that was around 9:30PM.
"But he never made it to the house."
Despite Carter's manager being happy that the 34-year-old was excited about the prospect of releasing new music, it seems as though he was also worried, because the 'I Want Candy' singer had been acting out of the ordinary.
"In the last few weeks, he missed some things, and that was so uncharacteristic of him, and I was upset," he said.
After the news of Aaron Carter's untimely death was announced on November 5, Helgeson took to Instagram to leave a heartfelt tribute for his client and close friend.
"You are the reason I am where I am," he wrote in a caption alongside a video of the two. "It’s hard to describe our relationship, you were hard headed so was I, you were complicated, so was I and yet somehow we understood each other.
"Over the many years of our relationship we had ups and downs but we always showed up for each other when we needed one another. You gave me every opportunity you could constantly telling me that I had a place in this business. My heart hurts, our world is different, you are not here anymore, but you are in my heart as my brother till I see you there. I love you Bonch..."
As per TMZ, the last time Carter was seen alive was 2:00AM on the Friday. It was reported that his housekeeper found him the following day in his bathtub before alerting the emergency services.
The outlet also added that law enforcement officers believed that his body was in the tub for a long time as "there was a smell of decomposition and the water had turned an unnatural color."
The official cause of Carter's death has yet to be released.
