Barbra Streisand has made George Floyd's six-year-old daughter, Gianna, a Disney stockholder following her father's death after being arrested by ex-Minneapolis police officers.

Taking to her fledgling Instagram account to reveal the news, the six-year-old wrote: "Thank You @barbrastreisand for my package, I am now a Disney Stockholder thanks to you."

This caption was accompanied by a number of smiling pictures of Gianna thanking the 78-year-old singer for her gift.

One of the pictures showed Gianna taking a closer look into a red folder that contained her Disney stock portfolio and another showed an additional two gifts from Barbara: Her 1965 album My Name is Barbra and her 1966 album Color Me Barbra.

Gianna's Instagram account was set up just two days ago, but it already has 47.1K followers. The six-year-old follows just 23 people including Streisand, Oprah Winfrey, and Michelle Obama.

The account features a number of emotional posts referring to Floyd's death, with one on Sunday simply reading: "Stop killing our fathers."

News of Streisand's gift follows the decision of Texas State University to offer Gianna a fully-funded scholarship should she wish to attend in the future.

Gerald Smith, chairman of the TSU Foundation, said in a statement cited by USA Today: "We know the value of an education in the pursuit of solutions and generational progress. We look forward to embracing her into the TSU family."

A GoFundMe has also been set up to help Gianna, and it has raised $2.15 million at the time of writing.

This comes as unrest continues to unfold across the US, as protests - some peaceful, some violent - are calling out the systemic injustices carried out against black people, not least seen by the recent deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor.

As well as a call for justice, these ongoing protests are also demanding an end to police brutality and the racism that is so deeply entrenched in America and the western world.

The message is simple: Black lives matter.
