George Floyd's six-year-old daughter Gianna has been offered a full schoolship from Texas Southern University.

Following George's funeral on Tuesday, the university released a statement saying: "The Board of Regents of Texas Southern University (TSU) honors the memory of George Floyd on the day that he is laid to eternal rest.

"Mr. Floyd was a lifelong citizen of the Third Ward and a revered graduate of Jack Yates High School. The Board, in conjunction with the TSU Foundation Board, has approved a fund to provide a full scholarship for Floyd's beloved daughter, Gianna. TSU's executive and academic staff will prepare a place for Miss Floyd if she wishes to attend the University."

The announcement comes one week after Kanye West offered to cover the cost of the six-year-old's college tuition.

Per E News!, the rapper also donated $2 million in relation to the recent deaths of George, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor.

Last week, Gianna's mother, Roxie Washington, opened up on how the loss of Floyd is affecting the family.

"I don't have a lot to say because I can't get my words together right now, but I wanted everybody to know that this is what those officers took," Roxie said, pointing to Gianna at a press conference. "At the end of the day, they get to go home and be with their families. Gianna does not have a father."

Per the Guardian, after reviewing the bodycam footage of Floyd's arrest, state charging documents allege that the now-former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin held his knee on Floyd’s neck for a total of nearly nine minutes.

It also states that Chauvin kept his knee on Floyd's neck for two minutes and 43 seconds after Floyd had become non-responsive.

Chauvin - the 19-year veteran - currently faces the most serious charges of the four ex-cops: second-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter.

The other three men assisting in Floyd's arrest - Thomas Lane, J. Alexander Kueng, and Tou Thao - have been charged with abetting murder, as well as aiding and abetting manslaughter.

Speaking at his funeral, Floyd's niece, Brooke Williams, said to those in attendance (referring to her uncle by his middle-name, Perry): "As long as I'm breathing justice will be served for Perry.

"My uncle was a father, brother, uncle, and a cousin to many. Spiritually grounded, an activist, he always moved people with his words. Those officers showed no remorse as they watched my uncle’s soul leave his body.

"He begged and pleaded many times just for you to get up, but you just pushed harder."

Now, unrest continues to unfold across the US, as protests - some peaceful, some violent - are calling out the systemic injustices carried out against black people, not least seen by the recent deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor.

As well as a call for justice, these ongoing protests are also demanding an end to police brutality and the racism that is so deeply entrenched in America and the western world.

The message is simple: Black lives matter.
