The cause of death for Sandra Bullock's longtime partner, Bryan Randall, has been revealed following the news of his tragic passing aged 57.

Randall and Bullock met back in January 2015 after the photographer collaborated with the actress on a project for her son's birthday celebrations.

While the pair kept their relationship largely private throughout that time, they did confirm that they were officially seeing each other after an appearance at Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux's wedding a year later.

Then in 2018, we saw them both attend the Oceans 8 World Premiere together in New York City, where they were snapped by paparazzi spending lots of quality time together.

The 59-year-old actress rarely discussed her relationship with Randall, though she did open up about the idea tying the knot with him after spending almost a decade together.

"I don't want to say do it like I do it, but I don't need a paper to be a devoted partner, devoted mother," she told the hosts of Red Table Talk. "I don't need to be told to weather a storm with a good man."

"We share two beautiful children — three children, his older daughter. It's the best thing ever," she said.

She also recalled the moment she brought up an NDA from the time the pair first met.

"I said, 'Remember that NDA you signed when you photographed my son?' I said, 'You know, that still holds.'"

"He said, 'Why?' I said, 'I'm bringing a child home when I come back from Toronto,'" she added, before calling him a "saint" for helping her raise her children.

Bullock also opened up about her partner being "scared" of her life in the spotlight.

"He was so happy, but he was scared. I'm a bulldozer. My life was already on the track, and here's this beautiful human being who doesn't want anything to do with my life but the right human being to be there," she continued.

A statement released by his family via PEOPLE Magazine expressed the family's sadness at the news as well as his cause of death.

"It is with great sadness that we share that on Aug. 5, Bryan Randall passed away peacefully after a three-year battle with [Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis]," his family shared. "Bryan chose early to keep his journey with ALS private and those of us who cared for him did our best to honor his request."

"We are immensely grateful to the tireless doctors who navigated the landscape of this illness with us and to the astounding nurses who became our roommates, often sacrificing their own families to be with ours," his family added.

"At this time we ask for privacy to grieve and to come to terms with the impossibility of saying goodbye to Bryan," the statement concluded, signed, "His Loving Family."

According to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease, is "a rare neurological disease that affects motor neurons—those nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord that control voluntary muscle movement. Voluntary muscles are those we choose to move to produce movements like chewing, walking, and talking."

Our thoughts and prayers are with Randall's friends and family at this time.
