Busy Philipps has explained why her child Birdie has decided to use she/her pronouns again after using they/them.

In an exclusive interview with Page Six at the 2023 American Museum of Natural History Gala on Thursday night, Cougar Town alum Philipps shared the update about her oldest daughter, Birdie, 15.

Philipps, known for her podcast Busy Philipps Is Doing Her Best, had previously revealed in 2021 that Birdie identified as gay and preferred they/them pronouns.

Despite occasionally slipping up with pronouns, Philipps emphasized the importance of respecting her daughter's identity.

She confirmed to the publication: "The truth is Birdie has decided that her pronouns are she/her"

Philipps previously expressed: "Because Birdie said that they would like their pronouns to be they/them — and I haven’t been doing it — and I said because I have this public persona and I want Birdie to be in control of their own narrative and not have to answer to anybody outside of our friends and family if they don’t want to."

Acknowledging Birdie's openness, Philipps continued: "Bird was like, 'I don’t give a f***. You can talk about how I’m gay and out. You can talk about my pronouns. That would be cool with me. That’s great.' So I said, 'OK, I can talk about it on the podcast.'"

The actress candidly admitted to occasionally making mistakes but conveyed her commitment to trying her best. Reflecting on Birdie's pronoun change, Philipps highlighted the significance of gender-affirming care, allowing kids the space to explore their identities.

Jamie Lee Curtis shared similar sentiments earlier this year after she revealed that she gave her Oscars award they/them pronouns in support of her child Ruby.

The star spoke to Today about her achievement, and it was during this interview that she revealed that her award has the pronouns they/them.

The presenters of the show, Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb, asked Curtis if she had named her award yet, to which she replied: "Here they are, and in support of my daughter Ruby I'm having them be a they/them, I'm gonna just call them, them. They/them."

The Halloween actress continued: "They are doing great, they're settling in, and I just, in my life I never thought in a million years I would have this couple of days. I'm very moved by the whole thing."

This came after Curtis discussed the possibilities of non-binary award categories.

The 64-year-old said: "Obviously I would like to see a lot more women be nominated so that there's gender parity in all the areas and all the branches, and I think we're getting there.

"We're not anywhere near there. And of course, the inclusivity then involves the bigger question, which is, how do you include everyone when there are binary choices, which is very difficult."

Curtis continued: "As the mother of a trans daughter I completely understand that. And yet, to de-gender the category, also, I'm concerned [that] will diminish the opportunities for more women, which is something I also have been working hard to try to promote."
