Cher, the legendary music icon, recently made an appearance on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast, where she shared some candid thoughts about her former Burlesque costar Kristen Bell and her husband, Dax Shepard.
The conversation, which took place on the January 5 episode, took an unexpected turn when Shepard openly addressed the fact that the “Believe” singer may not be his biggest fan.
Cher’s Take on Kristen Bell’s Relationship
During the conversation, Shepard didn’t hesitate to ask Cher who she thought would be a better partner for his wife, Kristen Bell.
He jokingly noted: “Who would be your dream partner for her? Cause I know you think she could be better, and I don't disagree.”
While Cher didn’t have an alternative in mind, she offered a thoughtful response that focused on trust.
“The truth is, I trust her. So you must have something that I don't see,” Cher explained, leaving a lot of room for interpretation about the nature of Bell and Shepard’s relationship.
Dax Shepard Defends His Relationship
As the conversation unfolded, Shepard seemed eager to make his case to Cher.
He reassured her: “I'll tell you the thing that you should like about me. I'm not threatened by her shining. Love it. The shinier she gets, the better.”
Cher was quick to relate this trait to her own longtime boyfriend, Alexander “AE” Edwards.
“Alexander is that way too. The more I shine, the more he has won,” Cher noted, showing that she appreciates a partner who supports her success. Bell chimed in, calling this dynamic “Guys who polish you so you shine more.”
As the podcast came to a close, Shepard expressed his deep affection for Cher, telling her: “I adore you, and I understand nobody's good enough for her.”
Bell, smiling, agreed, saying, “He’s almost too good for me,” and referred to Shepard as a “slow burn.”
The Origin of Cher and Kristen Bell’s Friendship
Cher and Kristen Bell first crossed paths while filming the 2010 musical Burlesque, a film that also starred Christina Aguilera and Stanley Tucci.
At the time, Bell and Shepard were already engaged, and Cher quickly formed a bond with the actress.
Reflecting on their first meeting, Cher shared: “We got along so well, and we were very sympatico, and I respected her a lot.”
Cher admitted that she wasn’t familiar with Bell’s work at the time but acknowledged her talent. “I didn’t know who she was, but she was good,” Cher said.
A Lighthearted Moment on Parenting
In the latter part of the podcast, the conversation turned to parenting.
Shepard, known for his humorous and laid-back personality, joked about his fatherly duties.
After receiving a compliment from Cher about being a good dad, Shepard quipped: “I put on a good show when the guests are here. That was the first hug I’d given my daughter in two years. Just because you were here. I wanted to impress you.”
Bell, who shares two daughters with Shepard - Lincoln, 12, and Delta, 11 - was quick to express her admiration for her husband.
“He’s the best dad there ever was,” she said.
