Donald Glover shares symptoms he felt when he had a stroke on stage - doctors later discovered a hole in his heart

Donald Glover made a powerful return to the stage at Camp Flog Gnaw this weekend, marking his first major public appearance since abruptly halting his tour last year. The artist, also known for his musical persona Childish Gambino, shared the real reason behind the sudden break - he suffered a stroke.

During his set on Saturday, which was live-streamed by Amazon Music, Glover recounted the health scare that forced him to press pause on The New World Tour. “I was doing this world tour. I was having lots of fun, really loving seeing you guys out there,” he told the crowd. “And I had a really bad pain in my head in Louisiana, and I did the show anyway. I couldn’t really see well, so when we went to Houston, I went to the hospital and the doctor was like, ‘You had a stroke.’”

Glover canceled his tour after stroke diagnosis

Back in September, Glover postponed the remainder of his tour, telling fans he needed to “focus on my physical health for a few weeks.” Just a month later, he officially canceled all remaining dates, citing an upcoming surgery and the need for recovery time.

“And the first thing I thought was like, ‘Oh, here I am still copying Jamie Foxx,’” Glover joked to the Camp Flog Gnaw audience. “That’s really like the second thing. The first thing was like, ‘I’m letting everybody down.’ I know it’s not true.”

The Grammy winner added more detail to the string of health issues he battled last year. “I’d broken my foot. … and they found a hole in my heart,” he revealed. “So, I had this surgery, and then I had to have another surgery. They say everybody has two lives, and the second life starts when you realize you have one. You got one life, guys. And I’ve gotta be honest, the life I’ve lived with you guys has been such a blessing. I love seeing and performing for you guys.”

Big screen comeback is next

Now that he’s back on stage and feeling healthy again, Glover has his eyes set on Hollywood. He’s confirmed to reprise his fan-favorite role as Troy Barnes in the long-awaited Community movie. He’s also lined up to star in a solo Lando project within the Star Wars universe.

It’s clear Glover isn’t just returning - he’s ready to take things even further.
