Directed by his husband David Furnish and JR Cutler, the film features never-before-seen concert footage of John over the past five decades, diary entries, and present-day footage of him and his family.

The Grammy-winning singer - who retired from touring last summer after finishing his Farewell Yellow Brick Road world tour - was accompanied by his husband at the special event.

The 'Rocket Man' hitmaker delivered a heartfelt speech to the audience after the film, opening up about his health problems through the years.

“To be honest with you, there’s not much of me left," he joked, cited by People. “I don’t have tonsils, adenoids, or an appendix."

He went on: “I don’t have a prostate. I don’t have a right hip, or a left knee or a right knee. In fact, the only thing left to me is my left hip... But I’m still here. And I can't thank you [enough], you’re the people that made me.

"I want to thank David and Zachary and Elijah for making me the happiest man in the world," the music icon continued, referencing his partner and their two sons.

The 'Tiny Dancer' singer has been vocal about his health challenges.

Back in 1999, John got a pacemaker after it was discovered that he had an irregular heartbeat. Ten years later, he was hospitalized for influenza and a bacterial infection, and in 2013 medics found an abscess on his appendix.

Just last month, the singer-songwriter revealed on Instagram that he was slowly healing from a “severe eye infection” that has left his vision impaired.

“Over the summer, I’ve been dealing with a severe eye infection that has unfortunately left me with only limited vision in one eye. I am healing, but it’s an extremely slow process and it will take some time before sight returns to the impacted eye,” John said in a statement.

“I am so grateful for the excellent team of doctors and nurses and my family, who have taken such good care of me over the last several weeks. I have been quietly spending the summer recuperating at home, and am feeling positive about the progress I have made in my healing and recovery thus far," he added.

The statement was shared months after John disclosed that he underwent knee replacement surgery, a procedure that left him unable to attend and receive his Emmy award for the Outstanding Variety Special (Live) category.
