Hilaria Baldwin has opened up about her fears over Alec Baldwin's mental health in the wake of Halyna Hutchins' tragic death.

On October 21, Hutchins, a 42-year-old cinematographer, died after Alec accidentally shot her while rehearsing a scene that involved pointing the gun at the camera and pulling the trigger.

In order to escape the media circus that emerged amid the police investigation into the incident, Hilaria decided to take her six children to Vermont.

Hilaria told The New York Post that she didn't have a particular destination in mind when she left her Greenwich Village home the day after the accidental shooting.

Hilaria told the paper that she had been driving around for almost a whole day in order to find somewhere far out of the public eye. She eventually settled on ski town Manchester, Vermont, where she was later joined by Alec.

She said: "I didn’t know where I was going, I just drove. I just drove around and around and around with my kids."

The 37-year-old yoga instructor told the paper that she worries that her husband may develop post-traumatic stress disorder in the wake of the on-set shooting.

She said: "I brought [Alec] up here because we have to mourn Halyna's death. Alec had a really traumatic thing happen, and I am trying to limit the PTSD.

"You look at what happens to soldiers and police officers when something like this happens, it’s traumatic. We just came up here for quiet."

On whether her husband would consider acting again, Hilaria said she was not certain.

She said: "He needs space for me to take care of him and his mental health. It’s an awful thing that happened. Alec feels awful."

Over the weekend, Alec decided to speak to the paparazzi who had been following him and his family around in Vermont.

Stopping by the roadside, the SNL star told the reporters that he was unable to speak about the investigation but stressed that Halyna was her friend.

Visibly emotional, he said: "She was my friend, she was my friend. The day I arrived in Santa Fe to start shooting, I took her to dinner with Joel [Souza], the director. We were a very, very well-oiled crew shooting a film together, and then this horrible event happened."
