Hunter Biden has opened up about his struggles with addiction in a new interview.

The 51-year-old politician, and son of President of the United States Joe Biden, spoke about his issues with substance abuse in a recent interview on CBS Sunday Morning while promoting the release of his upcoming memoir, entitled Beautiful Things.

Biden told CBS correspondent Tracy Smith that he had been a habitual cocaine user up until he was discharged from the naval reserve after failing a drug test.

Per Sky News, Biden stated:

"I spent more times on my hands and knees picking through rugs smoking anything that even remotely resembled crack cocaine.

I probably smoked more parmesan cheese than anyone you know. I went one time for 13 days without sleeping and smoking crack and drinking vodka throughout that entire time."

Biden added that he was able to recover and abstain from further drug use thanks to help and support of his father, stating:

"By the way, not only does [my father] talk to me every night - he calls every one of my daughters and he talks to each one of them every day, and I know that he talks to my sister.

He's always done that. Because he lost - because he, like me, knows what it's like not to be able to pick up the phone and talk to your son."

This revelation comes not long after Biden stated that his family staged an intervention for him in the midst of the 2020 Presidential Election.

Speaking to CBS broadcaster Anthony Mason, Biden stated that his daughters witnessed the entire incident - and even blocked his car door to prevent their father from driving away.

Hunter stated: "I tried to go to my car, and my girls literally blocked the door to my car, and said: 'Dad, Dad, please. You can't. No, no.' [My father] grabbed me — gave a bear hug, and he said — and just cried, and said: 'I don't know what to do. I don't know what to do. Please.' I thought: "I need to figure out a way to tell him that I'm gonna do something, so that I can go take another hit," Hunter says.

"It's the only thing I could think. Literally. That's how powerful. I don't know of a force more powerful than my family's love, except addiction."
