Jameela Jamil has addressed the backlash she received after quitting Twitter when Elon Musk purchased the site.
On Monday, the 50-year-old Tesla founder bought the social media platform for $44 billion, promising to make it "better than ever".
Jamil, who has one million followers on Twitter, responded to the news by posting her "last tweet" on the platform.
The Good Place star, 36, wished her followers the "best of luck" as she announced her exit from the site.
Explaining her reasoning, she said she fears Twitter will now be a breeding ground of "lawless hate, bigotry, and misogyny."
Alongside four images of her with her dog, she wrote: "Ah he got twitter. I would like this to be my what lies here as my last tweet. Just really *any* excuse to show pics of Barold. I fear this free speech bid is going to help this hell platform reach its final form of totally lawless hate, bigotry, and misogyny. Best of luck."
The day after her post, the actress took to Instagram to speak out against the hate she has received since announcing her departure from Twitter.
Captioning a screenshot of her final tweet, she wrote: "MY DMS ARE WILD TODAY. I said this and then left, after Elon bought Twitter, and some angry white men are seemingly quite upset. They keep talking about how I don’t want free speech. That I’m a dumb b**** (partially true tbf) and some just told me how they want to kill me- standard."
Jamil went on to say that she doesn't want a "freedom of hate speech" as it harms the freedom of speech for those in our society who are "oppressed".
She continued: "This is a move towards (esp straight male) white entitlement. Nobody else is safe there if they do not think the already HORRIFYING vitriol on that app is enough 'freedom.' It’s about to become The Purge and some sort of crypto bro fever dream I fear. Why bother when I could just be happy and play with Barold and eat cake ya know?"
"It appears obvious some of these people were looking forward to being able to abuse me on Twitter, and have had to come to my DMs to spew their boring bull****. Sign of what’s to come on there eh?
"Let the angry boys have their toy. Once there is nobody there to make bigoted jokes about, or to oppress or threaten to rape, they will fizzle out and go back to Reddit where they came from."
