Jersey Shore followed the wild lives of eight 'guidos' and 'guiddettes' partying at a beach house and trying to smush as many meatballs and grenades as possible. It starred captivating characters such as Snooki, The Situation, JWoww, and Pauly D, who dazzled the world with their sparkling wit, the Algonquin Round Table of the early 21st century. Everyone agrees that the show was an extremely accurate portrayal of both Italian-Americans and everyone in New Jersey.
But as time goes by, many of us mellow out with age, abandoning the party life to start a family. Jersey Shore star Deena Cortese recently gave birth to her first child, a boy named Christopher John "CJ" Bruckner. There are so many 'firsts' to look forward to - first words, first steps, first fist pump, first 'T-shirt time.' In fact, Cortese has already witnessed one major milestone: getting mom-shamed.
On Instagram, Cortese shared a adorable photo of her three-day-old 'guido' sleeping in his carseat. She wrote, "Going home ? ( it’s not a jacket .. it’s a onesie and hospital approved it ) we’re not perfect but we got this ?? thank you for the concerns ?" You'd think the comment section would be nothing but heart emojis and exclamations that CJ looks 'FTD.' However, despite Cortese's pre-emptive disclaimer, many strangers expressed concerns that CJ's outfit is not car seat safe.
One Instagram user commented, "The harness is too loose, look around his legs!! It's clearly loose as fuck." Another added, "Take that baby out and put it back in without the suit on and see how loose the straps are!" A third scolded, "Onesie or not it’s way too thick. Car seat safety isn’t something to take lightly. I don’t care if it’s unwarranted advice I’ll say it to anyone." Hospital personnel are NOT car seat technicians. That ‘onesie’ is definitely NOT safe in a car seat," wrote another.
But it wasn't all negative. Many Instagram users encouraged Cortese to ignore the criticism, because getting mom-shamed is just part of being a mom. One woman wrote, "You got this girl! You do you and don't worry about the loser mom shamers. They are just miserable trolls!!! Baby boys are the best!" Another stated, "Here we go with the mom shaming! People need to shut up and just enjoy the beautiful photos." "Do not ever, think you need to explain yourself as a mother," advised one user. "You are great, he is healthy, and you got this, jacket or not." And this commenter summed it all up: "Welcome to motherhood and all the sanctimommy’s of instagram."
The cast of Jersey Shore - sans 'Sammi Sweetheart,' the Dorothy Parker of their Algonquin Round Table - is currently starring in a new reality series, Jersey Shore: Family Vacation. If the next season features CJ, Cortese can look forward to experiencing the magic of mom-shaming on even more. It's just part of life. GTLM - gym, tan, laundry, mom-shaming.
