Oh to be a celebrity, hey. Oh, to have all that money, all that power and all that luxury. For many, the idea of spending more than $30 on a bottle of wine is something we can ill-afford, but for the Hollywood Elite, it's nothing but a drop in the vast, swaying ocean. A needle in the ever-marauding haystack. Basically, what I'm saying, is that celebrities have a lot of money. A lot of money.
Take Johnny Depp, for example. The actor was believed to have been worth around $880 million at the peak of his powers. However, it's being reported that through his extravagant lifestyle and his rapid fall from grace, he has blown pretty much all of it.
Depp is no longer able to pull in the paydays that he used to, with accusations surrounding his abusive relationship with Amber Heard marring his legacy and brand. And now, the actor, 55, has entered a legal war with former Joel Mandel, claiming that he mismanaged his finances and has left him in financial turmoil.
Mandel's company - The Management Group - are countersuing Depp, claiming that his unprecedented lifestyle, which costs over $2million a month, is the main reason behind his money woes.
In his lawsuit last year, Mandel said: "Depp, and Depp alone, is fully responsible for any financial turmoil he finds himself in today. He has refused to live within his means."
According to an interview with Rolling Stone magazine, Depp lives a life of extreme excess, racking up a monthly wine bill of $40,000 as well as splashing out on other ridiculous luxuries.
The actor has a long list of properties, with Mandel claiming that the actor spent $AU 101 million on maintaining his 14 residence across the globe. Depp currently has a 45-acre chateau in the South of France, a chain of islands in the Bahamas, a host of homes in Hollywood and a horse farm in Kentucky.
However, it's not just property that Depp likes to collect. He's also a huge lover of guitars and it's believed he's forked out a lot of money on his collection, which currently stands at 70 guitars. The actor's love of music is well known, with him previously collaborating with Oasis, Sex Pistols and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, before joining The Hollywood Vampires in 2015.
He also spent $AU6.7 million scattering the ashes of his good friend Hunter S. Thompson by firing them out of a cannon, and has an excessive art collection that includes work from Andy Warhol, Basquiat, and Amedeo Modigliani.
Unsurprisingly, Depp refuses to fly with the general public, and only goes private. According to Mandel, the actor spends hundreds of thousands of dollars on private jets every month.
Mandel also alleged that Depp paid "hundreds of thousands of dollars to employ a full-time sound engineer, who Depp has used for years to feed him lines during film production".
The star also has a fleet of 45 luxury vehicles, including a 1940's Harley Davidson. And, when his daughter, Lily-Rose, wanted a sofa from the set of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, the actor was happy to oblige and dropped $AU8,800 on it.
For his part, Depp alleges that Mandel paid his sister Christi and assistant Nathan Holmes more than $AU10 million each without his knowledge. Then there is also the small matter of tax, with Depp alleges his representatives didn't pay on time, leading to him received a huge $AU 10 million fine.
So, while you struggle to make you rent and enjoy nice meals, Johnny Depp drops more than your annual salary on wine every month. Life isn't fair.
