We all know Kelly Clarkson best as one of the names Steve Carell's character screamed as he got his chest waxed in The 40-Year-Old Virgin. But it turns out she's also a singer! After winning the first season of American Idol (sorry, Justin Guarini), Kelly went on to sell 25 million albums, win three Grammy's and judge aspiring singers on NBC's The Voice.
Recently the singer lost forty pounds, and fans were surprised by her svelte new look. We all want to lose weight, but it can be such struggle. For example, on one hand, I could go to the gym after work and run on the treadmill for an hour. But on the other hand, I could go home, eat a double cheesy pepperoni pizza, and drink ten beers. Obviously, it's a close call, but I'm going with the pizza and beers.
People have wondered how Kelly lost all that weight, but the singer has played coy. (Probably because dodging questions burns calories.) On the finale of The Voice, she joked, "I have to shout out my whole glam squad. I literally hired Harry Potter and Spanx; it’s all like a sausage." (By the way, "It's All Like A Sausage" is a great song title, please record it, Kells.)
However, now Kelly Clarkson finally opened up, while speaking to the hard-hitting journalists at Extra. Unfortunately, the bit secret not a glam squad consisting of Harry Potter and Spanx. She revealed that her dramatic forty pound weight loss is all due to her treatment of a thyroid condition:
“I literally read this book, and I did it for this autoimmune disease that I had and I had a thyroid issue, and now all my levels are back up. I’m not on medicine anymore because of this book, it’s called ‘The Plant Paradox (by Steven R. Gundry, MD).’ It’s basically about how we cook our food, non-GMO, no pesticides, eating really organic.
"Literally, I haven’t worked out at all! I think people think I’m working out and I’m like, ‘Don’t think I’m going to come play some sport!'"
Well, if you feel inspired by Kelly, now you know what you can do to follow in her footsteps. Or, if you're like me, you'll order the book, plan to follow its directions, and then totally forget about it. (It's much more fun to eat a double cheesy pepperoni pizza and drink ten beers.)
We all hope there's a easy, magic secret to losing weight, but the answer is always the same: diet and exercise. A lot of exercise if you have a bad diet; a lot of attention to diet if you don't exercise. It takes discipline to follow, since life is hard and food is an easy comfort. But if you stick to it, like Kelly, the results can be very rewarding.
Now, let's get to the real story: Kelly Clarkson finally met Steve Carell! Awesome.
