Kelly Clarkson has candidly opened up about what inspired her dramatic weight loss.

Over the last few years, the 41-year-old singer has spoken out about her struggles with her weight, which she has said fluctuated especially after her two difficult pregnancies.

However, Clarkson has revealed her current slimmed-down physique was down to a health warning she'd received from her doctors.

During Monday's (January 29) episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, the 'Since U Been Gone' musician gave an insight into the diagnosis she received that kick-started her journey towards a healthier self.

Watch Clarkson open up about weight loss below:

The 'Stronger' star - who was pushed into the spotlight after winning the first season of American Idol - was talking to actor Kevin James on her daytime talk show.

James told her that she looked great, which prompted Clarkson to disclose: "Well, I was told I was pre-diabetic. That’s literally what happened… and well, I wasn’t shocked. I was a tiny bit overweight.

"But I wasn’t shocked by it. They were like, 'You’re pre-diabetic. You’re right on the borderline.' And I was like, ‘But I'm not there yet,'" she then quipped.

She shared that she waited "two years" before she finally told herself: "OK, I’ll do something about it."

Last month, the mom-of-two spoke about her slimmed-down transformation and credited her kids, River Rose, nine, and Remington Alexander, seven, for keeping her in shape.

"We go walk the dogs a few times at the park. We'll go for ice cream because my daughter will wear me down. We'll go make slime and we go to the museum," Clarkson told PEOPLE. "Walking in the city is quite the workout."

The 'Because of You' hitmaker also revealed: "I'm really into infrared saunas right now. And I just got a cold plunge because everybody wore me down."

Clarkson keeps it straightforward when it comes to her healthy diet too, as she prioritizes the advice from her doctor, which she confessed she didn't always do.

"I eat a healthy mix. I dropped weight because I’ve been listening to my doctor - a couple years I didn’t. And 90 percent of the time I’m really good at it because a protein diet is good for me anyway. I’m a Texas girl, so I like meat - sorry, vegetarians in the world!" she said.

The vocalist previously spoke to the publication about being shamed for her weight at the beginning of her career, saying: "Even on American Idol I was really thin, but I was bigger than the other girls on the show, so people would say things to me.

"But luckily I am super confident, so I’ve never had a problem with shutting people down and saying, 'Yeah, you know, that’s just what I’m rocking. It’s fine,'" she added.
