Kevin Hart has taken to Instagram where he has issued a statement explaining why he is currently in a wheelchair.

Hart is one of the best-known comedians and actors in the world, known for his hilarious movies which frequently feature Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson.

Well, it turns out that even celebrities are susceptible to father time, as the 44-year-old has sustained some pretty nasty injuries after attempting to do things he was capable of in his youth.

In his social media address, Hart humorously and candidly told his followers: "Ladies and gentlemen, the age 40 is real. To all my men and women out there who are 40 years old and above, it's not a game. Respect that age, respect that age, or that age will make you respect it. I was just forced to respect it."

He added: "This is a public service announcement because I know people may see me out and I don't want you to be alarmed, but I'm in a wheelchair."

The incident unfolded when Hart, in the company of former NFL star Stevan Ridley, embarked on an impromptu competition. The two decided to settle a friendly dispute through a race, and Hart, feeling confident about his speed, accepted the challenge.

"I was pretty fast," Hart recounted with a hint of irony, explaining his decision to engage in a 40-yard dash against Ridley.

However, the fleeting sprint led to a far more serious outcome than anticipated, as Hart candidly shared from his wheelchair: "Guys, I blew all of my s***. Tore my lower abdomen, my adductors, I tore them. I don't even know what that is, but I tore them. Tore those two. I can't walk, sit my a** down. This is 44."

While Hart's frustration with his current situation was evident, he directed much of his annoyance toward his own decision-making.

"What are we competing for at this age, what am I doing? Why did I even race? Stupidest s***, and now I can't walk 'cause I'm somewhere trying to get the title of the fastest at the barbecue," he said.

Hart's fellow celebrities offered words of comfort and amusement in the comments.

Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson shared his own experience of tearing an adductor muscle during wrestling and assured Hart that he would be "fine," albeit with a humorous touch, predicting that Hart would "grow a 3rd ball" in the process.

Will Smith empathized with Hart's situation, acknowledging the realities of aging, while Judd Apatow playfully suggested Hart's fashion choice might have hindered his performance: "Maybe the Gucci Adidas collab slowed you down."

Hopefully, the comedian can make a speedy recovery - though not so speedy that he injures himself again!
