For the Kardashian-Jenner family, names seem to hold a great deal of significance. Kris Jenner obviously decided early on that she wanted her kids to have brand-able monikers (classic momager move) and so gave all of her daughters names beginning with 'K'.
Her three oldest daughters then continued this tradition of slightly out-there identifiers. Kim famously called her kids North West, Saint West, and Chicago West; Khloe, of course, has baby True (also pretty recognisable); and Kourtney has a mix of normal and unusual names for her kids: Mason, Penelope, and Reign.
So, when rumours began flying about that Kylie Jenner was expecting, there was a great deal of speculation over what the little one would be named. Bookkeepers took bets on what the newest Jenner would be called, with Ava and Mia being the most popular choices.
Surprisingly, though, Stormy never even made the top 10 list.
But perhaps that has something to do with the fact that Kylie actually changed her daughter's name right before it was time to record her birth certificate.
In a Halloween makeup tutorial with James Charles, the KUWTK star revealed how she came up with the idea for "Stormy".
"I was just looking at nature names, like weather and earth inspired. Storm was on there — just Storm," she explained. But that apparently seemed pretty plain to the 21-year-old, so she decided to jazz it up a bit.
"And then I was like, I kinda want '-ie' like me, so then I did Stormie with ‘-ie’."
She went on:
"It was always Stormie with an ‘-ie’. I bought custom things for her that said her name, '-ie'. I bought her the blocks, ‘-ie.’ I didn't fully choose her name, I wanted to have a week of just me and her to see if I wanted to change it. I had one other name in mind, but Stormi always felt like her name from when she was in the womb. It's almost like she chose her name."
But hold on a second, Stormi's name doesn't have an 'e' on the end - so what gives?
"When they called me from the birth certificate office, and I was finalising the name, they were like 'how do you wanna spell it?’ And I was like S-T-O-R-M-I, and they were like 'you sure?' and I'm like 'yeah, just an i.' Literally right then and there I just changed it to an 'i.' Then I hung up the phone and I was like ‘damn, guess that's her name.’"
The decision was so impulsive, in fact, that she only got round to telling Travis Scott after she'd done it.
"Then I called Travis, and I was like, 'I didn't put and 'e' I just did it with an 'i'," she explained.
Thankfully, he was fine with the choice, and responded: "That's cool".
So, there you have it - Stormi was nearly Stormie. The difference isn't a huge one, of course, but - somehow - I think it makes all the difference. Well done, Kyle, you made the right decision.
